I will vote for whoever the Democrats run, but when people talk about having Joe withdraw in favor of Kamala Harris, it makes me think of Hillary Clinton.
Hillary Clinton should have won. She DIDN’T win because America’s misogyny is exceeded only by its racism. Harris will face the same challenges, plus she’ll be representing a party that just allowed Donald Trump and his surrogates in the media to bully them into pulling their candidate four months before the election. She’d have enough of an uphill battle without that anchor around her neck.
The way to get President Harris is to vote for Joe Biden and let nature take its course.
She ALSO did not win because Putin plant Jill Stein took enough votes from her in five states in which if all those people had voted for Clinton insetad of Stein in ONLY ONE OF THOSE STATES, Clinton would've won the Electoral College and the presiedncy.
Yes, you are right that this country is rife with misogyny, but also note another woman was a defonote cause of that loss.
You are right that we must vote for Joe to get ANY chance of Kamala later.
This is a contra opinion, but it's as possible as any other prediction for the future (unless you predict that trump will turn into a decent human being--so not happening).
It may be healthy to have a serious setback during the campaign. I think people got complacent when Hillary Clinton had such a healthy lead in the polls. That may have lost her some votes from people who thought she was a shoo-in and that it was safe to cast a protest vote (it is never safe to cast a protest vote).
The timing is not bad. The election is still months away and there's a lot of time for things to change. This time perhaps we can avoid complacently and do what the Repubs do every time--focus on winning.
I am so frustrated by the loudest voices in the room. That Philadelphia Inquirer article stands out for being a lone voice of sanity in the “media”, but, while SO refreshing to read, it’s all totally obvious, common-sense stuff!
It is an obvious truth that, if we were using the criteria we use in our everyday lives to judge everyday people, to judge Biden and Trump, Trump would not be an acceptable candidate for ANY position, and Biden would be an easy hire. I am sick of tearing my hair out at all the greed-driven headlines/stories that simply ignore this obvious truth. I don’t see that there is any way to control the narrative from these bought-and-paid-for publications, and I don’t want to hear about how Dems are doing a poor job of it anymore.
The only thing that seems to really matter anymore is where the money is coming from. Thats the first thing I wanna know about every politician, leader, head-of-whatever, judge, publication, journalist, WHATEVER, forever more
Not doing terribly well. Stressed about the impact of the debate and have just been diagnosed with shingles. Are the two related? I think we should be told.
On the bright side, I'm back in my tiny hometown and it looks like (for the first time since 704) the Tories might not win. The swing is to the LibDems, not Labour, but I shall be toddling orf for to vote in the next hour or so and do my bit to try and redress that.
I know what to do. Circle the damn wagons and stop bellyaching about a stupid debate which is a worthless way to evaluate candidates. Biden could be god himself and the nyt et al would still declare the gop the winner, same as every debate since the beginning of time.
I don't think that helping victims is in a prosecutor's job description. Instead, she prosecuted. I don't agree with everything she chose to do, but I respected her a lot and would love to see her as President at some point. If I wanted someone who I totally agreed with, I'd have to run myself. I'd be a horrible President. She's tough enough to do the job.
I'm still a stupid optimist, but I'm also out in the streets, fighting like hell to get Dems elected up and down the ballot, because I owe it to my daughter and her daughter, and I ain't going out like a chump.
I too was no fan of OHJB during the 2020 primaries, and ended up very surprised that he has been the greatest president of my lifetime, despite the headwinds from MAGA Republicans and MAGA SCROTUS. His cabinet and administration leaders have been extraordinary, which is what a competent President ensures. I, also wholeheartedly support Kamala Harris (who must immediately name her VP candidate) as the Democratic nominee for President, if President Biden decides to step aside.
Those in charge of the Democratic Party have some hard decisions to make, with not much time for navel gazing, as to how to proceed. Joe Biden has been a great President and if re-elected will continue to be a great President. He's not, however, currently a great campaigner. Shit. Shit shit shit.
I don't know how to make those decisions. I have to trust our leadership, and that's a bit scary, frankly. But I'll keep writing my GOTV letters, and I'll tell all my friends to vote and to tell their friends to vote, whether it's for Biden or for Harris or for some other nominee. So my self-direction is rather simple, as I hope it is for most of the non-commenting crew here.
I'll try to keep myself sane (what does "sane" even mean nowadays?), but mostly I'll keep doing things to keep Trump from returning.
The Dem party does not represent Dems, as they proved when they supported Joe Lieberman after Ned Lamont beat him in the primaries. They support power and incumbency, not Dem primary voters.
I’m so sad. I’m crying all the time. I don’t want to move to Canada. I’m terrified that my marriage is going to be de-recognized. I do NOT have any dark thoughts, don’t worry about that aspect. I just don’t know how I can remain sane through another four year nightmare.
At this point, I'm not even considering any comment along the lines of, "Everything is so bad now that we might as well burn it all down and start over."
That's EXACTLY what the fascists are doing RIGHT NOW; how's that working out so far?
A good explainer on why it has to be either Biden or Harris.

I will vote for whoever has the best chance of keeping the
Orange pestilence away from any power. I love Ol’Joe, but in all fairness, long ago and far away in 2020 primary season, I loved Kamala best.

Sadly, the Electoral College matters. It keeps giving us minority rules Presidents who lose the popular vote.

Here is your great VP when she was a prosecutor. https://www.leefang.com/p/kamala-harris-refused-to-assist-victims https://www.leefang.com/p/kamala-harris-refused-to-assist-victims Too bad you have to subscribe to read the rest. Watch the short video.
Lee Fang?
Nah.

A pal of Andrew Sullivan no less!
So? She has other friends, I'm sure. Your post is cherry-picking at it's worst in that you are picking skunk cabbages instead.
Ta, Rebecca. Biden's a great POTUS; Harris is a great VP. Let's stay the course.

None of us know how to cope if Trump wins. It's going to be epically horrible.
The only tryanny I'll accept!!

Substitute "old" for "shrill" and we had this exact debate going on in 2016.
The difference now is that we know full well how much damage Stinky and his enablers have done and will continue to do.
