You're making me think maybe I should re-visit this one. When I first heard about it in the late 70s/early 80s, my thought was Oh boy, androgyny! (my conception of which was strongly influenced at the time by David Bowie). The novel I read was Not That and failed to make much of an impression - in fact iirc I found it rather dry. But it has literally been decades since I read it.. maybe I'll try to track a copy down.

Yeah, that was really more of a symptom than anything.

There were Rights Issues involved, so don't expect it on any of the legit streaming services. But rest assured, it's out there.

That list-- aleph-null, or aleph-one?

Blurbese is indeed a separate languabe. The PeeResident is fluent- or is it, incontinent?- in Blurbese, having oversold himself all his life.

Found my Books on Tape cassette version :-)Here's another LeGuin I enjoyed: The Dispossessed.IIRC it also received both the Hugo and the Nebula awards.

ETA: also part of the Hainish Cycle

I found it slow to start, because Genly Ai annoyed me. But it gets better when the focus moves to Therem.

Not Left Hand. I've read that dozens of times. I'm talking about Lathe of Heaven. Just can't get into it.

You really should. I reacted the same way, first time around (and I read it pre-Bowie).

Try it again. I've been "comparing and contrasting" the story with today's attitudes, and it really is a different read.
