"On Monday, a Florida court found Chiquita Banana liable for financing a right wing paramilitary death squad"

`

Either this is satire, or Ron Puss in Boots is jealous that HE doesn't have a right wing paramilitary death squad of his very own*.

I am familiar with someone in the Chicago area - whose parents were killed in Nicaragua for these reasons. The details are horrific - tho said person was adopted by Hispanic Americans when he was a teen. Let's just say the PTSD for this person runs deep.

OMG! I have not been following this story, but I was raised on the story of Chiquita Banana and the overthrow of the government in Guatemala in 1954. I remember boycotting Chiquita Banana in the 60's and 70's. I still won't buy their bananas. This is not a problem for me because I don't care much for bananas, not since the time in 1972 when I got food poisoning in Rome and my mother the nurse made me eat bananas for 4 days. I got so sick of bananas that I never cared to eat them again.

All this time and I thought bananas were pretty cheap.

Turns out not so much.

Literally the company for which the term "Banana Republic" was coined. It's about time there's some accountability.

Banana Republic is the strangest name for a clothing company. Why did they choose to honor that sort of politics?

Shocking! How will business guarantee shareholders solid returns when they have these impediments on using local contract labour to resolve supply issues? Unfettered capitalism is the only way to move the poor into an open grave!

A good start. Next step is the corporate execs who approve these kinds of actions should be held criminally liable.

I want DOW esp for what they did in the subcontinent.

In the 90's I had quite a few friends dealing with the fall out due to corruption of the town that got gassed and the plight of the survivors. They were pre-med or other allied health cuz they still had to take care of family members affected while the news and governments looked away and/or were paid to look away.

May this be the beginning of those in power being held accountable.

No statute of limitations on murder.

Maybe some Rico statutes that use money or other such so they can bribe governments to get away with their crimes. Please?

I sadly had forgotten about that one. There are too many tragedies that get paid off so that none have to face the consequences of even paying what pittance they were required to pay after all that loss of life (if they had even THAT as a consequence).

I'm thinking RICO sort of statutes cuz it's a conspiracy to continue profiting off the deaths of these humans. I know I'm spit balling but I think paradise will be around the corner when those companies and the humans that made the decisions and profited off the death are held accountable to all. It's my prayer to the universe daily anyway.

I have difficulty remaining impartial, and I think it’s the hat. But seriously, without accountability, we have nothing. And I’m glad to see something resembling FAFO somewhere in the world.
