Chris Christie: I Too Can Be A Dick To Jimmy Carter

Keeping his campaign promise "to start offending people" -- and trying to prove thatheis the rightful heir to the title of Biggest A-Hole Republican Candidate, for the party's voters desperately seeking the very biggest A-hole they can find -- Gov. Chris Christie decided this weekend that he wasn't going to allow primary rival Ted Cruz to make off with the Dick o' the Week Award without a fight:  

Christie said that we have the “weakest” president on foreign policy, and that, “[Obama] makes Jimmy Carter look strong,” while addressing an Iowa State Fair crowd from a soapbox. [...]

Carter revealed on Thursday that melanoma had spread to his brain and that he would begin radiation treatment immediately.

Cruz offered Carter support on Twitter prior to his Iowa comments. Christie did not.

We admire Christie's dedication to out-dicking even Ted Cruz, by not even offering an insincere tweet to the former president who announced on Thursday that he's dying of cancer, which has spread throughout his body. But then, Christie is so far behind in the polls that he might not even be allowed on the next debate stage, and in such a crowded field ofso many assholes, it takes a lot to distinguish yourself as a contender.

While Republican candidates were making gratuitous worn-out jokes about how Jimmy Carter was the worst president ever, haw haw, the former president was spending his weekend a little differently:  

The 90-year-old former president taught Sunday school in his hometown for the first time since he disclosed on Thursday that his cancer had spread to his brain.

With easygoing humor and his usual toothy smile, Carter gave two back-to-back Bible lessons to unusually large crowds totaling more than 700 people — some of whom had traveled hundreds of miles — just three days after undergoing radiation treatment.

He spent less than five minutes recapping his illness before saying, "That's enough of that subject" and beginning the lesson on faith, love and relationships.

Perhaps the Republicans who are so busy talking about their faith out of one side of their mouths, while spewing hatred out of the other, should make some time to attend the former president's next class. They might learn something.
