Call me a maverick, but, if Trump's successfully thrown off the Colorado primary ballot, I'm staying on.

The idea that Trump, while President was not an officer of the government is nonsense. He was THE officer of the government, elected to faithfully execute the law and not over-throw the government.

Remember back in the good old days when HRC testified live under oath for 11 hours, and they got nothing. And they wanted to “lock her up”

Now? Trumps innocent, (but doesn’t want his trials to proceed).

Woo-hoo!

We just gave Trump such a punch in our eye.

If this sticks then blue states we could have won easily will do this to no greater electoral value for us but any subsequent Biden victory will always have an asterisk.

Oh, and maybe we won't win because folks from the other party knocking a front-runner off a ballot based on a civil assessment by judges before an actual jury has the chance to try him for insurrection is not going to sit well with the Indies who flipped swing states for us in 2020.

We can beat fascism on a clear and open playing field. Let's do that.

(And no, I'm not going to fight about this.)

I usually enjoy their page very much, but I think they're being overly optimistic with this:

"Broadly Overturn the Decision: If you had to bet, this is probably the outcome you should bet on, since the Court is 6-3 conservative. To make this work, the Court would have to come up with a compelling reasoning for why the Fourteenth doesn't apply to Trump. Basically, they would have to argue that: (1) it wasn't an insurrection, or (2) it was an insurrection but Trump didn't support it, or (3) it was an insurrection and Trump did support it, but that's not disqualifying for him."

I think they're giving SCOTUS *way* too much credit to suggest that they'll bother with anything more complicated or nuanced than, "Because fuck you, that's why!"

They then go on to mention:

"It is also worth pointing out that if SCOTUS does rule that it wasn't an insurrection (#1) or that it was an insurrection but Trump didn't support it (#2), that would effectively gut Jack Smith's Washington D.C. case."

As much as I hate the idea of borrowing trouble, I cannot help feeling that this is horrifying. One of the four cases was effectively dead in the water when it got assigned to Loose Cannon; we don't need to ratfuck another one.

Considering republicans spent years screaming that Obama is ineligible because of the birtherism bullshit, it’s kind of hard to take all their indignant “well believe in democracy” bullshit seriously.

At least the inbred insurrection was real.

The only way President Klan Robe and his supporters will be defeated is at the ballot, removing their champions from office in such overwhelming numbers that they become a rump party. None of this is going to stop the brownshirts or to keep all good people from staring down Klan Robe yet again.

Ignore any of the clout chasers and sudden bad-faith actors who pop up to cause chaos with FUD about Joe Biden. We have our assignment for 11 months from now; all of this is just noise that distracts us from the mission.

Joy Reid pointed out last night that this was the Supreme Court’s chance to rid the Republicans of Trump. Republicans should let them. They should signal to the Court to do just that. The only downside is that Biden might lose to a Haley or a DeSantis. (Might, though I’m still certain his base would never vote for Nikki Haley and he’s bruised DeSantis too much in the primary. Trump wouldn’t campaigned for either one of them ). Do the right thing, Roberts!

Well that's some big ole lede burying , dude.

OK, tell ya what.

Why don't you just explain to all the women and girls who will die for want of needed abortions when Haley or DeSantis presides over a nationwide ban that they are just collateral damage?

Just glibly tell them that it was more important to fix the Republicans who refused to fix themselves.

SMH...

Ok.. here we go…the only downside is that he’d lose to Haley or DeSantis. My saying that doesn’t mean I think either one would be more lenient than a Trump administration on abortion. I know what’s at stake. I don’t even think this would fix Republicans, but it would get rid of that albatross that is Trump and prevent him from inflicting more damage than he already has. Abortion isn’t the only thing he’s taken away from Americans. He’s also enabled a Court that’s taking away people’s rights to vote and talking about suspending the Constitution . There’s nothing glib about my statement. The topic wasn’t abortion either, so don’t.

As much as I’m enjoying watching MAGAts tie themselves into knots over this, I’m convinced the republican leadership is far too cowardly to actually rid themselves of Trump.

The only thing that will get Trump off the ballot is if a blob of trans fats clogs his coronary artery.

So, blob of trans fats 2024!
