Victory! Conservatism ascendant! The GOP is once again eating liberals’ lunch! DRUDGE SIRENS!!!!! TWITCHY TEAM, ASSEMBLE!!!! We’re speaking of the crowing we caught on Twitter yesterday over the news that Elbert Guillory, Louisiana State Senator, has switched his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican.
Oh, rubbish, Louisianians are inordinately proud of Huey and Earl and Edwin. Spiro? Penny ante stuff. Jindal is an embarrassment: clean, but thicker than two short planks.
Forgot to include that by 1980, Edward Brooke's Senate career had ended in scandal and had already been losing support from his party over his views on abortion.
Hey, in the ever-loving NY State legislature, this happens pretty much all the time nowadays. For years the GOP held a slight majority in the lower chamber, due mainly to gerrymandering upstate, but finally finally finally the Dems won both houses and the governor's seat. A huge reform agenda was poised to fly through Albany when 4 deeply corrupt sleazebag Dems threw their support to the GOP in exchange for powerful positions. Naturally, within months all of them had been indicted and thrown out of office, but it was too late.
Same exact thing happened again in the following election.
Really, when it comes to corruption in state government, NY can give IL and LA a serious run for their money. And our money is bigger too.
No, Chicagoans also brag about their corruption--and we haven't tried to sell a Senate seat yet, so there's that.
thank you for your service.
speaking of science, we just finished gorging on 'orphan black'
so fun. go forth and watch.

I'd do anything for love, but not that
we Arizonans just shrug our shoulders and say "someone has to set a bad example for the rest of you"

Uniquely, NY has seen a major newspaper, the NY Times, recommend that voters run every single state legislator out of office.
