Our closest grocery store is a walmart neighborhood store. It is staffed by retirees who should be chilling, and youngs who should be doing more than standing there staring at people using self-checkout (the only option for paying). But the closest alternative is the safeway, which smells like the fridge went out at the carniceria, even after a total remodel.
The great news is that a new new trader joe's just opened up, and it is not tiny and it does not have a crappy parking lot. Hooooray! It is closer than the other two, bigger than the other two, and doesn't require a freeway to get to. Happy day!
Yesterday's mail brings a cashier's check from WFB for a considerable amount from their Remediation department, regarding overpayment for a safe deposit box. I've had the box for maybe 30 years, costs me $85/year.
I am instantly suspicious, as it smells like a scam. It IS WFB, after all--or purports to be.
So I called, not the number on the letter, but one I found on the WFB website. Guy was helpful, but needed to transfer me. I didn't have time to sit on hold (had someplace to be), so extracted the number from him and will call tomorrow or Monday to get to the bottom of this.
What it could be is WFB getting out in front of another class action by preemptorily sending out these checks. Not unheard of. I've been a longtime customer, ever since we moved to CA, so who knows?
Can't wait to track down some answers Monday (or whenever).
Earlier this year, ProPublica published an excellent article about how Walmart Financial services expedite fraud. In fact, Walmart is responsible for more financial fraud than any other corporation in the USA.
Ta, Dok. Never have I ever banked with J.P. Morgan Chase (although once upon a time I wrote a song called The Manhattan Chase), Bank of America, or Wells Fargo. That has never stopped scammers from sending me phishing emails about my nonexistent account. Also too, I have never purchased anything from Walmart or its adjacent companies. They rip off taxpayers on a regular basis, rip off SUPPLIERS whenever they can get away with it, and hold workshops for their employees to teach them how to apply for government benefits, since it doesn't pay their workers enough to live.
We just finished dinner, after darling husband Meccalopolis rearranged the living room, which he has wanted to do for awhile. While he did that, I slow-roasted carrots and autumn frost squash; they were served with pomegranate molasses and balsamic vinegar. The rest was straight Middle Eastern; falafel, homemade baba ghanoush, caramelized onion hummus, vegan tzatziki, lettuce, tomato, radish, white onion, and Kalamata olives, with homemade tahini sauce on whole wheat pita, with a few dashes of hot sauce. It's almost time for Shabbat Zoom; we'll be back after the service.
Oh, and there's split pea soup on the stove. Fuck the fucking price of aigs; no one eats better (or feels better) than gourmet vegans.
You've written chapter and verse on why I will never, ever set foot in a Walmart or a Sam's Club. Notoriously a destroyer of small towns' business centers and for not paying their 'associates' a living wage so that they have to apply for state support (here in CA, they get applications to MediCal and food stamps in their new hire packets), Walmart is one of the worst employers out there.
Certainly. Lovingly put the eggplant on a tray in the oven at 400º F and cook it until the skin starts to char. Cool until you can handle it, then use a spoon to peel the skin away, composting the skin and stem. Squeeze out any excess liquid, using a sieve if necessary. Chop eggplant roughly into small pieces. Cut 1/4 to 1/2 red pepper into very thin strips, mix into the eggplant. Add a tablespoon or so of fresh lemon juice, a finely minced clove of garlic, about 1/2 teaspoon of cumin, and a teaspoon of smoked paprika. Add 2-3 tablespoons of tahini (depending on how much eggplant you have) and mix all thoroughly. Taste it and adjust seasonings if necessary. I don't salt it; it should be salted to taste and smoked salt is better than plain. Enjoy!
When the biggest revelation (from an "I didn't know that!" type perspective) in the blog is that Shit Kingdom and the Fuck Mountain Tribe have merged... that's a big fucking deal! Who knew that the King Shit of Turd Mountain now can claim Fuck Mountain as well and didn't tell me?!?!?! I MUST NOW UPDATE MY ROLODEX! I wonder if he'll still get my Xmas card if I sent it to Turd Mountain instead...
At this point it’s cruelty for cruelties sake as a way to further protect corporations rather than the people who help them even exist. God I hate all these fuckers.
One more point about Warren versus Harris. Nobody in the media had *any questions* about Warren’s and the Democrats’ positions and policies, the “what is a Democrat and what do they even stand for” manufactured oligarch bulltripe.
They really have too much power. They should be dismantled and replaced. And then the big banks they ran should have the same done to them. Oh, wait, we weren’t talking about the CEOs of Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and Chase directly, were we?
OT: This demoralizing news comes as a shock to starry-eyed Democrats who were sure their message was getting through to the Christo-Fascist Fundagelical demographic.
New York Times Pitchbot:
In a devastating rebuke for Democrats, polling shows they lost by double digits among voters whose megachurch preachers declared they were agents of Satan.
I set up a Zelle automatic payment for my bookkeeper. It worked fine until she died, when I tried to stop the automatic payment. There is no way to do that through the Chase website or app. You have to call customer service and get transferred to some department in India where the guy did not understand my problem and was only able to recite a script. They cannot reverse a payment, even one that hasn't been accepted by the recipient. I like the Zelle service but they need to adjust for typical customer needs, like canceling automatic payments without having to speak with someone who is not authorized to solve normal problems encountered by customers.
It's super easy to send money to the offspring on the other side of the world with Zelle, so I appreciate that, but yeah - that sounds like a) a nightmare and b) a predictable issue they should have solved in advance.
When Trump starts breaking stuff next year Democrats need to make themselves available on the news shows, not just to criticize him but to offer a better path we could have taken.
Typically you find the MAGA crowd has no solutions, just whining. If they do manage to suggest a solution, like building a wall, it's so full of holes it should be obvious to anyone with half a brain it's just an unworkable simplistic solution to a complex problem. Or a brain not so infested with hate and bigotry that facts are pushed aside. The term "truthiness" coined by Colbert seems to be the MAGA answer to research.

That tracks.

If Sam Walton was still alive, he'd raise hell.
Can you give me a recipe for baba ghanoush?

Thanks, sounds delicious.
Zelle fain?
Wells Fargo needs to die!

HAHAHA!!!!
"....Trump and his co-president...."
That's optimistic... for trump.
Enjoy these last little bits of goodness, folks.

I hope they 'batten down the hatches' and survive another 4 years of this maladministration!

That actually sounds like it might be true.

I set up Zelle to pay my cleaner. The only reason why I did not have to cancel was because the account to which I paid her was closed.
It's super easy to send money to the offspring on the other side of the world with Zelle, so I appreciate that, but yeah - that sounds like a) a nightmare and b) a predictable issue they should have solved in advance.

News shows rarely book Democrats. When they do it is usually to dog the Democrat over a “scandal”.

You forgot "infested with brainworms".
