Idaho girl here too. Glad to know others from my state are not totally insane and it's always cool to find other awesome folks around.

It gives me hope that our state isn't a total loss. Thanks for doing this hard work. Keep it up and if you need a protest buddy in Boise or otherwise, I'm here for it.

I was actually contemplating printing out pages of his speech and putting them on windshields in my little town of Mountain Home.

"but also, we dare to hope, for kicking the resistance to Donald Trump’s fascist takeover into a new phase"

I hope that you are correct here, Dok, but there's a fly in the ointment: as civilians we can only accomplish so much (prior to the 2026 midterms). Without the Dem Congressional leadership growing a pair (there are some who have done this already like Cory Booker, Hakeem Jeffries, and AOC as examples, and most definitely *not* Schumer) and standing up against the batshit crazy RINOs we're still on the path to authoritarianism.

-----

"Thurmond took at least one bathroom break during his marathon speech. Booker somehow went the entire 25 hours and four minutes without leaving the floor"

Mr Last, at the Bulwark, noted today that he thinks that Sen Booker's fasting prior to the marathon speech was a religious cleanse, but I think there was at least one, more secular, reason: so he wouldn't need an urgent bathroom break.

"the unconstitutional firings and eliminations of federal agencies that only Congress can shut down, the betrayals of our allies in Europe and Ukraine, the insane threats to actually invade Greenland and Canada, the plan to wreck Joe Biden’s strong economy with tariffs, the attempts to turn back every shred of progress on climate, the weird revenge against law firms that dare to take cases against Trump’s policies"

* Since when has the Fulvous Fuckwad given a shit about what the Constitution says. He's made it abundantly clear that until he can successfully tear it up and flush it down his Pyrite veneered Porcelain Thrown he's only going to follow those sections he agrees with.

* Give it some time, Mooseballs Mussolini's trained attack Dachshunds, rabid lapdogs, and declawed puddy-tats will willingly rubber stamp the elimination of any federal agency that might oppose a hostile takeover of the gubmint.

* "There is only one thing worse than fighting with allies, and that is fighting without them." Winston Churchill

* Regarding Greenland, Mr Churchill likely never imagined the situation we are in today. With that in mind, I offer a caveat: there is one thing worse, and that's fighting against an ally -- when the rest of the alliance stands against such asshattery.

* What strong economy? Sleepy Joe was responsible for the inflation that ruined the US economy. The Amber Ardipithecus ramidus told us that during the campaign for POTUS, and we all know that his word is his bond (except when it isn't) and that he's as honest as a second is long.

* There is no climate change crisis, it's only the normal day-to-day changes in the weather.

* Vengeance against perceived enemies is *the* cornerstone of the Sociopathic Marigold Swamp Monster's administration. (By definition, anyone who does or says anything that the Mango Malignancy doesn't like is an enemy.)

"Chuck Schumer! Good for you for encouraging Booker’s speech and helping him with questions during it, but for Chrissakes you need to be blocking unanimous consent on every substantive thing the GOP puts forward."

Schumer, IMO, is more than willing to sit in a dark corner nursing his self-inflicted wounds rather than act as the Senate Minority Leader. He royally screwed the pooch when he voted in favor of cloture to advance an obscene, disgusting House CR (did he *really* believe that the Sen RINOs would allow any Dem amendments?), and "encouraging" Sen Booker doesn't come close to balancing the scale.

" as civilians we can only accomplish so much"

- General strike.

- Unionize so you can get more people to join the General strike.

- Build your independence from government and big business by joining cooperatives, the more of your needs you can meet without help from outside of your community, the less government and big business matter.

- Ignore laws and executive orders wherever you can get away with it.

- Watch How To Blow Up A Pipeline and then definitely not do anything you learn there.

Well Booker made me proud. Always liked that guy.

But of course, I do know that Booker is not perfect and of course should he have greater designs on the future, as Democrats always have accountability that will be dragged out to litigate his cause...for clout.

I do say again it shouldn't even COME to this point though. It shouldn't be necessary for Cory Booker to talk for 25 hours to basically beg America AGAIN to pay attention, just like people begged throughout the 2024 campaign. This thing made me happy but it also burns me out and dispirits me. Because everyone is like "DO SOMETHING." Even during this feat people were second-guessing Booker.

And so many of these warnings were said in the campaign. Booker was campaigning too and saying the same things. I guess it takes the shit actually happening to motivate Americans to pay attention? Because Booker was one of myriad Democrats warning us of all of this bullshit.

But people wanted to play in our faces...often for clout. "You're overexaggerating." "President Klan Robe said he doesn't know anything about Project 2025." "President Klan Robe is the Peace President."

That's the model we get now. People get to wild out voting for their privilege, prejudice and clout and get Republicans into office with near-total control, realize they voted for leopards to bite their faces off. And then two or four years down the line, they put Democrats in office and say, "Do more with less," and give them two...sometimes even four years to clean it up with tiny majorities and swathes of unreconstructed land representatives to work with.

So again I cheer this Herculean effort by Cory Booker. And it should've never COME TO THIS.

And people yelling at Dems to "Meet the moment?" The fucking moment was Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

Number 4, lighting a fire, is my favorite. I am becoming more convinced that the division in electoral politics will now be fighting vs. laying down and taking it. Even if they can't practically stop the Republicans, I think the Democrats need to do whatever they can to raise hell and rally people, so next time there's an election, they can show voters they've already stood up and are willing to continue doing so. The last thing you want in 2026 and 2028 is having nothing to show to voters who are fed up with Republicans and asking Democrats, "What will you do for me?"

It's extra sweet for Booker to knock Thurmond down a peg in the record books, especially since he used his filibuster to stand up for the people, not to deny people their humanity like second-place senator. I hope Sen. Booker gets a chance to put his feet up today.

Yep. If Democrats don't raise hell now, third party grifter candidates are likely to siphon off a significant chunk of their votes in 2028.

That's always going to be the case, sadly, because of the way Democrats operate...for two reasons:

1. Democrats demand that a major party candidate articulate all of the party's positions, meaning that because of Murc's Law dynamics they will be held accountable for any changes or past votes.

2. Democrats are often suckers for a silver tongue. This is one of the reasons we get taken by so many grifter-politicians who say the right things and then get into office and do a turncoat maneuver. Often a tell for this is Green Party membership, but it's also people who may say one or two facially anti-war things. Then when they get into office they lose the plot.
