So at about 11 PM I woke up, alone, with two local cops banging on the door. They demanded to see the Missus, had no search warrant though. Now, I was into indoor growing big time, and the dining table right by the door was full of my trimming project. There was pot everywhere. But when one said "for all we know you've got her tied up in the bathtub" I just let them in.
They searched the place, and when they got to the garage one of them mentioned that he also rode bikes. Then he offered to sell me his Honda sportbike! And at one point one of them said, in a disgusted tone, "They'll be selling it at Wal-Mart next year." They didn't even ask to see my letter. And by then I was ready to buy them a beer.
Ms. Zippy turned up at the hospital, got a ride from a relative. So I woke up the next morning with my beloved wife at my side. I still shake my head in disbelief, but I do like happy endings.
As per no better things to do: first year in college, I finally got my braces off (my fricking orthodontist made me wear HEAD GEAR) in Seattle. I was from a small town (pop. 3200) in SW Wa, and did not realize that the "Left hand turn only in transit" meant public transportation. He didn't give me any leeway. If you can't give an 18 yo some latitude for being ignorant, imagine what they do for a wee bit of pot?
That will do it.. a young friend, still in college, asked me if he could try it. He'd never |inhaled anything but air for his whole life. I told him no, twice, but the third time I decided to practice some "aversion therapy" - had to teach him to inhale from my bong and when he finally "got it" he had a terrible experience.
I think the reference is that using a vaporized form of Cannabis, versus a combustion byproduct of Cannabis, i.e. smoke, vaping is the safer alternative. Having said that, I would agree that using a blowtorch presents unique and significant risks, more so than, say, just smoking a joint.
There are all kinds of ways of doing “concentrates”—hash, oil, whatever—that don’t require the “oil rig” you refer to, they are a fairly new development, but people have been consuming extracts via vaporization, as it turns out, for about twenty five hundred years:
Trust me, you can vape extracts quite effectively with one of those little glass pipes sold in any head shop and likewise used for everything from tar opium to crack and crystal meth.
Regardless of apparatus, the idea that inhaling (ideally) only the vaporized cannabinoids vs smoke from the combustion of plant material including cellulose is one supported by research:

Yeah, and it's still way more expensive. I've smoked weed for nearly fourty years and all I've ever needed was my wooden pipe with the hinged lid and a lighter. All this high-tech jiggery-pokery may be very nice, but it is NOT the only way, or the safest way, or even the best way (depending on the person). This fucking country ALWAYS wants to get people to SPEND SPEND SPEND. Even when we don't need to. HARRUMPH
Vape oil is a concentrate. Just as hashish is a concentrate. And I don't find that vaping lessens my pain any more than flower does, frankly. The quality of the high is different (vape is softer and doesn't last as long), but the effect on pain seems to me to be the same, given that I can only take a couple of vape pulls before I'm out, and I can easily smoke a pipeful for the same effect.
There are several vape companies that are processing the weed without all those harsh chemicals. There's also oil pressers if you just want to extract the raw oil yourself. They're pricey, but they work pretty well, I've heard.
Well, our house was in a small cleared area where we got a lot of sunlight, but it's true that the nights were quite dark there. I guess the starlight and moonlight didn't have a big enough effect to change the weed. Damn, I miss Santa Cruz! *SOB*
