The whinging over 'liberal Hollywood actors' was more of a Rush Limbaugh era thing.
Daily Wire already tried to make a parallel entertainment world that wouldn't offend conservatives, but it wound up being just cheap knockoffs with guys trying to convince themselves that something stale and boring is actually good.
There are already AI “girlfriends” and sex workers online, and have been for a few years. That’s what many of these incel conservatives are after. It’s interesting that they made her so young and attractive, leaning heavily into that aesthetic rather than simply creating an actor whose defining talent is, you know, acting. So yeah, Tilly is a pretty lazy attempt to create controversy and clicks by borrowing a character from any AI porn site and labeling her an actor who is simply swamped with offers from talent agencies. I hear Trump has offered Tilly a job as a White House aide and personal assistant. She’s very talented and getting more and more recognition these days. And she has none of those frustrating thoughts or opinions to interfere with the male gaze.
It's weird how technology mirrors society sometimes and vice versa. I think most AI experts would tell you that AI emerged when the technology became robust enough to handle it but I can't help thinking that there was some connection with all these right-wingers who hate empathy, hate everyone they disagree with, and who are absolutely terrified of women who don't agree with everything they say. I think this might be a case of "cometh the moment, cometh the tech."
I do think it's ironic the way right-wingers tell Hollywood to "shut up and act" and yet the most washed-up has-been of actors can always get a two-minute slot on Fox News as long as they're railing against the left. "Shut up Tom Hanks! You're not a *real* actor, like Kevin Sorbo!" Just another in a long line of right-wing hypocrisy.
But, all the incels will be really happy about their made-to-order hotties who will never disagree with them or force them to think critically about themselves. The fact that these AI creations don't exist in meatspace will hardly even register as a downside since incels aren't really used to that anyway. The only people who will be happier are the studio execs who are frankly jizzing themselves over the possibility of making movies without actually paying people to make them. Hell, Disney's been trying to crack this "movies without actors" technology for a while through all those "live action" versions of cartoons that are actually just cgi.
Honestly, the future looks bleak for the entertainment industry. The tech bros have already taken a huge chunk of market with their shitty streaming services (filled with half-done shows that ended super abruptly). The rest of the entertainment industry seems to be following their lead in utterly devaluing creativity.
Ta, Robyn. The alleged promise of AI was relieving humans of boring, repetitive, soul-crushing work. Instead, it's being programmed to STEAL the work of creatives in all fields. This theft of IP is, as you said, without consent or compensation of any kind. Have you seen The Congress? It creates a character of Robin Wright's look and performance from The Princess Bride, planning to cast this creation into movies.
Artists (again, in all fields) have enough trouble protecting their creative output from theft. I have personal experience, so I'm particularly sensitive to this. I took a course on sales and marketing for creative freelancers from a brilliant teacher named Alexandria Hatcher. Something she said in class stuck with me when we were discussing the theft of designs. "Creative people will always have another idea." Yes, another idea to be appropriated and fed into the maw of the large language model. Apart from stealing our work, so-called AI is also a resource hog. It uses more electricity than small cities, and so much water it may rival corn. At least corn has uses.
Real life actors have been working with cartoons since the 1900s, the only difference is the technology used to generate the cartoon. Rotoscoping, the multi-plane camera, stop action animation, modeling, matte painting, digital camera work, etc., were all thought to be a danger to actors and others involved in movie making. But the industry has adapted to new technology, and I think that it will adapt to AI generated cartoon "actors", too.
While I miss the hands-on talent of Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, Bob Clampett, Walt Disney, and so many other great artists and animators who worked to bring us the Golden Age of Cartoons, we have to accept that movie making has always adapted to cutting edge technology and real life actors have always been needed no matter the changes that technology has brought to movie making.
AI generated "actors" will certainly change things. How AI changes things, and how Hollywood adapts remains to be seen.
We have had movies where old film stock was reused with modern actors (Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid) but other than a few music videos the idea didn't catch on. So the question seems to be whether or not AI will be used to bring dead actors back to life, or create new actors, or new types of actors. Or will AI be used during editing to create a different world, fill in details, and do other creative work that isn't easily done currently.
Other questions are: how expensive will AI be? Will audiences like the AI creations? Can the AI creation carry the emotions needed to present the drama or comedy that is needed to hold an audience's attention?
We were lucky with cartoons. Walt Disney, Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, Bob Clampett, and so many others, were very good story tellers and artists. They really made a difference with their talents. It remains to be seen if the AI people will be as talented with their creations, or if the result will just fall flat.
OMG. Just when I thought everything was as bad as it could possibly get, I see this! And the comments were so disturbing. Is there anyone in right wing politics that has any empathy for anyone at all? Do they think none of this will negatively affect them? Are they all narcissists? Like how can anyone be mad at Mark Ruffalo? Just because they don't agree with him can they not see how much he cares for other people? For the planet? Things that actually matter? I am just so tired of being told that if you lean to the left, you don't deserve to speak, first amendment doesn't apply to you yada yada. Actors all need to be fired and replaced by what? AI that at some point appears human and perfect? At what point are all people expendable, except of course for an elite few. Is that what they want? Because that plan would not include any of those commenters with zero critical thinking skills! The people who stand up for clean air, clean water, animal welfare, an end to human trafficking, free speech, healthcare access, safe food, safe working conditions, a living wage, all that lefty stuff. That's who they want to silence?? Because if these yokels, are not part of the 1-2% of the wealth, how can they believe that they are protected from the fallout of unregulated AI? They just want to own the libs. Is that it? Time to ask yourself, "What if I am wrong?" Be careful what you wish for because y'all are going down with us. We're all gonna die.
Yep, the cartoon is terrifying alright. I wrote an article about the ways that’s Tilly Norwood is a representation of and also emerges from fascism, if that’s of interest https://open.substack.com/pub/leftiejane/p/the-new-ai-actress-is-everything?r=pm4cz&utm_medium=ios

She is private island hot!!!
Probably not for the same reason I don’t watch animated superhero shows/movies - gotta be real people, preferably with decent special effects.
Yes, I realize that doesn’t make sense because superheroes come from comic books, but that’s how it is.

Yep, I write about why she looks the way she does in my recent article as well https://open.substack.com/pub/leftiejane/p/the-new-ai-actress-is-everything?r=pm4cz&utm_medium=ios
I just went off on a mental tangent from Bladerunner 2049. God, make it stop!
Two words: Butlerian Jihad
I’m not sure what was creepier - that video from Particle 6 or the comments from the “AI has no opinions that trouble me” crowd.
Literally both are so terrifying https://open.substack.com/pub/leftiejane/p/the-new-ai-actress-is-everything?r=pm4cz&utm_medium=ios
Fucking pixels?
Verb or adjective. You decide.
Also, too, the only AI I'm interesting in is the one that makes MAGA disappear.
Apparently Trump now owns Google AI....
No AI could ever present the picture of Chump that South Park does.
I think I'll stick with them and their ilk even if they don't tell me exactly what I want to hear 100% of the time.
“…from what we’ve seen, audiences aren’t interested in watching computer-generated content untethered from the human experience.”
Rule 34 says you are so, SO wrong. Sorry.
I miss the times when this world wasn’t so utterly fucked.

Agreed to an extent, but also this particular form of ‘cartoon’ implicates more, I would argue, than former creative endeavours have https://open.substack.com/pub/leftiejane/p/the-new-ai-actress-is-everything?r=pm4cz&utm_medium=ios
