So 1965 is going to be our barometer? Excuse me?

I agree that art is art and greater regulation can be detrimental to free expression. But if I read correctly, the regs are for Best Picture nominees. And Dreyfuss' response implies some sort of expectation to be nominated. As if the purpose of creating a film is to win an award.

Othello? Dreyfuss couldn't even play the Fool in Lear

He played Iago effectively. But in light of recent developments, that was type-casting.

I was disappointed to learn that Richard Dreyfuss is a bigoted, self-center, selfish, thoughtless dick

I think it looks more like 1865.

Maybe he can play that parrot. You know, Iago.

That's another layer of his stupidity on this. And if I remember correctly, nominees only need to hit one of the four criteria. It's really a minimal hoop to jump through.

"That said, I do appreciate Patrick Stewart’s version of Othello where he remains white and everyone else is Black. Othello is still an outsider and Blackness is presented as the default."

I immediately thought of Patrick Stewart when I saw the headline.

Does this mean Jethro Tull wins over Metallica again?

I've never seen somebody cry so hard while jerking themselves off. Take your self-pity party elsewhere, Richard.

I also enjoyed Robert Downey, Jr.’s portrayal of Dreyfus’ dream role in Tropic Thunder. Hilarious!

It's an award. Given out by a club. Feel free to make your art in any way you like. If Dreyfus wants to play Othello j he should go right ahead and do that. Just don't expect an Oscar for it. (Even if it meet the criteria, Dick, don't expect an Oscar for that)
