I’ll take what I can get from people we often disagree with. Acknowledging that Trump and Trumpism is a horror show and represents a staggering low point in American history is pretty low hanging fruit. But the more people who believe it, say it, and will use their energy to push for an end to this madness the better.
Just for the record, Bill Kristol has been wide awake to the assault on democracy and the rule of law for a good while now, and although you and I will have plenty of disagreements with him about the specific contours of a reestablished democratic republic, he's been authoring some of the best analysis and critiques of this assault in the last few months. The Bulwark is worth checking out.
Why are we hating on Tracy Chapman? Did I miss something?
If you're referring to "wasting time in the unemployment line", I'll just note that I've always read that as the plain fact that they make you wait only to be told that you don't qualify, for whatever stupid reason- never mind that you don't have any money nor any reasonable way of getting any, and you've already been going hungry and hot/cold/miserable.
If you had told me even this time last year that David Brooks would close a column with a heartfelt call to action that paraphrases Karl Marx, I would have laughed in your face. This is truly the weirdest timeline.
Probable diary entry, March 1, 1945, Heinrich Himmler:
Situation looks dire. The Soviets are pissed and know exactly what I did. Fuck Hitler. He's going to get us all killed. I'll contact the western allies to negotiate a peace.
Also see Brook's article in the current Atlantic magazine along the same lines. How conservatism went off track, how the current regime is not conservative at all. And a vision for change in the long run that is pretty good considering where he came from.
There were signs of his coming out of the closet a while back when he, perhaps inadvertently, spoke approvingly of single-payer financing of health care.
Very clever, New York Times! You realize now you were clueless simps who couldn’t recognize evil when in paraded in front of you, so you send your blandest culture warrior out of the castle to announce the scales have fallen from your eyes. Well, we welcome everyone into our ranks, but how about adding some prescient voices to your oped pages? Wonkette, LG&M, Roy Edroso, Driftglass, Charles Pierce…

Thank God somebody caught her arrest on film. Chills the blood.

I'm confused. Where in the text is it "hating on Tracy Chapman"?

He should have listened to Rudolf Hess.
I take back 80% of everything mean I ever said about David Brooks.
OK, 75%...
Ta, Dok.

Judge Luttig also said Trump is not conservative.

Has hell frozen over? David Brooks said a whole bunch of things with which I agree. Should I have someone check the back of my neck?
Snow flurries are reported in Upper Hell, but Lower Hell remains sunny and hot.
Evil times make strange bedfellows or something like that. We need all the help we can get to fight the Poop Flinging Orange Demon.

That article ended, "we have nothing to lose but our chains". Has David Brooks gone Marxist?! Has Trump driven him to the communism?
Brooks sashays up in a Russian peasant’s outfit and a bearskin hat.
“How do you do fellow revolutionaries.”
America had our own communists back in the day. He could have shown up in overalls and a flat cap,
"How do you do fellow wobblies? Did I miss the general strike?"
No more capitalist Scotch for you, comrade.

Save me from what I've done!
