Why didn't the DNCC/DNC throw its support behind Jessica Cisneros in 2022, who ran against Cuellar in the primary and lost by not very much? She is 29-30 years old, believes in climate change, changing our gun laws to better prevent gun violence, and reproductive care that includes abortions as an option. Cuellar is practically a republican.

I still remember Pelosi saying "she will not be satisfied until EVERY anti-choice congressman is defeated (meaning GQP), then endorsing Cuellar over a progressive candidate. Every time I received a donation plea from that two faced corporate shill, I returned it with the name Henry Cuellar written in red sharpy across the page.......oh, and a very polite FUCK YOU NANCY!!!! written in the donation amount block....

Am I the only one who remembers that Biden made a deal with Mexico wherein they would invest $1.5 BILLION in ‘smart’ border technology? Is the problem the word "smart" and not "cruel and inhumane" or something? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

I get that vulnerable Dems want to defang the immigration issue that is used against them by Republicans, but one way not to do it is buy into their narrative and take shots at the guy who will be at the top of your ticket. Swing voters on this issue won't think "ah, I'll vote for this Dem who can speak truth to power over the Dems I think suck on this issue" but rather "hey, might as well vote for a Republican who won't owe any fealty to the woke Dems on this issue!"

How to take the offfensive? Propose nationwide E-verify, and strict penalties and enforcement against anyone who hires illegally--you won't have people coming here without getting their work papers in order if they know no one can hire them without serious repercussions. Blame Republicans for opposing this because Republicans want cheap, exploitable labor.

Also, blame Trump for sabotaging border security measures at the behest of deep pocketed GOP donors who want to hire illegal immigrants. You noticed he never built the wall, right? Point out that Dems would build the wall if only Republicans would stop serving illegal hirers.

42% decrease in illegal immigration! Cuellar as a Democrat should be shouting that from the rooftops. He should have just said “42% decrease in illegal immigration! STFU dumbass!” in answer to every question the interviewer asked him. Instead he lies to the general public, and lies to his constituents in service to the authoritarian facade of conservatism, to inflate another evil bogeyman windsock puppet (“illegals,” scary crossing border) in front of it because centrist just has to be to the right of the guy at the top of the Democratic ticket.

A certain number of elected Democrats have been so well trained, through the last four decades of the Reagan Era, to be cautious, that they are now compulsive cowards. It seems to be their only virtue, but the one that they believe will one day restore us to the pre-Reagan Era, when everybody was nice to everybody else and nobody had to raise their voices. It is an age so long gone that only very old people can even remember it, and even those who can remember it don't remember it very well. For example, they don't remember that even in the pre-Reagan Era, progressives had to FIGHT TOOTH AND NAIL for every bit of progress they got.

Lots of elected Democrats still support Cuellar, but only because they, like him, still consider caution to be the only virtue. When they look at the distant past, it looks as pink as Barbieland because of the rose-colored cataracts that cover their eyes.

We should know better. US Representative Henry "Quail" Cuellar is an embarrassment.

Texas can do SO MUCH better. In 2020, Henry Cuellar was challenged in the US House primary election by a REAL DEMOCRAT named JESSICA CISNEROS. She lost that primary by ONLY 1,700 VOTES.

In 2022, Cisneros challenged Cuellar again. This time, he won by ONLY 289 VOTES.

This means that there are only 289 Democratic voters in Texas who need to be SMACKED HARD WITH CHANCLAS before the next US House primary election in 2024, in which Jessica Cisneros will RUN AGAIN. She DESERVES TO WIN and Cuellar DESERVES TO LOSE.

"That’s like Republicans endorsing a candidate who believes in climate change."

Almost.

When you run as a Republican who believes in climate change, you lose money.

When you run as a Democrat who bashes immigrants, you get money.

Everything makes more sense when we realize that campaign funding creates perverse incentives that make Republicans bold and Democrats meek. Thus, campaign finance reform is a top priority for any Democrat who cares about anything. And indeed, it is for most Democrats. There are a few exceptions, unfortunately, and their names are Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin.

I suspect the average asylum seeker probably doesn't watch American TV even if they somehow have access to it. They have other concerns. So TV publicised deportations will do zip.

actually, Mr. Kurt and I both were paraphrasing a showtune from 1927's Show Boat, "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man", and also, in my case, a Tom Lehrer parody ("although she makes coffee/ that tastes like shampoo/ I come home for dinner/ and get peanut butter stew/ or maybe if I'm in luck/ it's broiled hockey puck/ but, oh well/ what the hell/ she's my girl/ and I love her."
