Brandon Scott makes me miss my old state of MD. But I love Oregon weather too much to leave here.
He's completely correct about this country being steeped in racism, sexism and misogyny. This country was born from the blood of Natives and raised on the backs of stolen people. It's ALWAYS been this way. It's ALWAYS been a white man. ๐ white men are freaking out about the fact that that's ending. The world isn't centered around them anymore. So this is what we get til those old dinosaurs die finally. Til then, we gotta keep fighting. Daily. Yeah, it sucks and it hurts our fucking souls to do it, but we have to. White women need deprogramming. White men.. yeah I've got no energy for that shit. ๐
We should also recognize that the flood of retrograde articles criticizing the Dems and the Harris/Walz campaign and suggesting why we lost and what we did wrong and finger-pointing with loaded fingers etc. etc. etc. is also a form of disinformation and an attempt to paint the party as weakened and mortally wounded.
These governors and attorneys general - and the indignation and anger of ordinary voters who supported the Dem ticket - show otherwise.
Does anyone really believe that if Democrats โchanged their messaging,โ and threw trans people, immigrants, and womenโs rights under the bus they would have won? Hogwash.
Exactly. But who wants to write about that? Who wants to just admit it was misogyny and racism when beltway writers have brand to promote?
No, no, actually Iโm sure if Harris had just come out and said that conservatives have a point about LGBTQ people having freedom that would have changed the minds of 11 million people.
I believe that's exactly the kind of ignorant, racist voter who doomed us to at least four more years of daily shit sandwiches. Lazy, ignorant fuckers (who think they can afford to be; we'll see about that) who sold us out for the price of a gallon of gas.
The last ironic joke will be both on them and on us, because gas prices are not going to decrease under a 2nd Trump Administration, and people who ever thought that are stupid enough not to remember it was Trump's failure to deal with the pandemic at all because he thought it would kill all the Black people and other people of color in the first place.
Inslee has had some firm words to say already, and Ferguson seems happy to say them louder for the back. I love him.
This election sucked ass, but I am genuinely so proud of my state, the only state where the electorate seems to have shifted left statewide. Harris won handily in areas that are normally red, which was nice to see.
I was musing on that this afternoon. The last truly big activist movements were over four decades ago. Vietnam, Earth Day, et al. Anyone who had an active leadership role there is a senior citizen by now (assuming they are still with us), and they very likely donโt have the energy to get out there again. And the kids who have the energy, arenโt going to listen to those old โboomersโ for advice and instruction, and will have to learn it all over again the hard way.
The specter that haunts any kind of resistance is one that Michel Foucault identified long ago: traditional kinds of "out in the streets" rebellion or resistance is pretty easily hammered by an authoritarian government into yet another "justification" for why they actually NEED the power they are wielding, and even why they need to become still more brutal. I don't mean that as a nihilistic or despairing comment. But the leaders in individual states, and more broadly those who would "resist" Donald Trump will no doubt have to reckon with this difficulty. There are plenty of highly intelligent, experienced lawyers and others who could perhaps slow down Trump's attempts to implement horrible policy, but if he goes fully fascist and starts brutalizing people even for using the law to hinder him, that's obviously a very bad affair.
I was probably already reported but in NY, Governor Hochul, and AG James didn't wait a week to put out statements vowing to protect the rights of NY State citizens.
It's a small ray of light that I live in hold-your-breath-blue Delaware. A lot of Democrats won big Tuesday (Sarah McBride!) and our state Senate and House are on the verge of a Democratic supermajority. I do a little local political work and am hopeful that our incoming governor and lieutenant governor will work with us. I don't feel like my civil rights are safe but I think we do have some fight in us.
Time for the five Pacific states to put together a joint fund for dealing with natural disasters (earthquakes, volcanoes, fires, hurricanes) since itโs not likely we will get much help from DC. Yes, Alaska is a red state but theyโre in this too.
I have a friend who works in the California government, and Gavin stopped by last Thursday to a department leadership thing. He was upbeat and exactly the charismatic politician you'd expect, and he was very focused on protecting the state in every way he can, but also darkly comedic. I'm told he said, "If I'm in Guantanamo in a couple months, promise to break me out, OK?"
You missed Bob Ferguson of WA, who has been our AG since God was a child and is now replacing the wonderful Jay Inslee as our new governor. Bob, it may be remembered, was the first AG in the country to sue the last Trump administration when it came to power. He spearheaded the national legal resistance to Trump's Muslim ban, and mostly won.
So I feel like I'm leaving the state in good hands as I pack up for the move to Canada.
I think the only time I've ever been more relieved to see the results of the WA state gubernatorial race was that nailbiter in 2004, and that's only because there was less time for my anxiety to cook this time.
Love from a former Gravitron operator. ๐คฎ
Ta, Marcie. For once, I did watch all the videos. We'll get through this somehow.

oregon weather? (i really don't know but my impression is like Washington - overcast/wet a lot).
Yes. That's what i love. ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คทโโ๏ธ plus huge trees.

PREACH.
We are this close to Mrs. Blockhead agreeing to sell our Wisconsin place and move to Baltimore.

Yup. It's well understood by everyone but the lazy and ignorant, but I repeat myself.
If only the consequences of Republican voting were visited on Republicans only
Please add new Gov Bob Ferguson of WA to this list
So glad to see that win, because that's a great man, Thank you WA! ๐
Since he was our AG , he's aware of what we're up against.

over here in E WA the dumb fucks are ranting about fraud. It cant be possible for Dipshit to win overall b ut WA to become more left.

Did you miss Occupy Wall Street?
I did not.
How effective was it, by the way?
About as effective as most protests.
This is excellent.
1. Trust yourself
2. Find others who you trust
3. Grieve
4. Release that which you cannot change
5. Find your path
6. Do not obey in advance, do not self-censor
7. Reorient your political map
8. Get real about power
9. Handle fear, make violence rebound
10. Envision a positive future
You owe it to yourself to RTFA.
Thank you for this.

Colorado and NM would likely be in - the Western Electoral Compact states seem to be hunkering down already.
Donald may try to sell Alaska to the Russians
