When I was a kid in college -- I tied an onion to my belt, as was the style at the time -- the student newspaper was the bi-college (Bryn Maw/Haverford) News. Bryn Mawr was one of the "Seven Sisters", eastern elite womens' colleges.
The News would run an ad nearly every week showing an attractive young woman holding a "facial massager" to her cheek -- it was OBVIOUSLY a vibrator. Everyone knew this, but the ad never mentioned that it might, say, create explosive ogre-asms if one were to use it more imaginatively.
The nation that produces and consumes the most pornography can both defend it as 'free speech' AND get to run a massive campaign to ban it at the same time?
However, it hasn’t been used in decades, as evidenced by the fact that you can go over to Amazon and buy yourself as many dildos and copies of Tropic of Cancer as you like without fearing arrest.
The Comstock Act only bars mailing things through the US Postal Service, right? So they could still be had via FedEx, UPS, DHL or other private couriers including Amazon's delivery fleet, couldn't they? They just need to know not to hand off last-leg delivery of verboten parcels to USPS like they do now.
Not saying the law shouldn't be repealed, as country folks would be left stranded if they started enforcing it, since rural delivery isn't profitable for the private carriers.
Well, the next thing you know, we inexcusable libs will be wanting to use the mails to send James Joyce's Ulysses to unsuspecting Americans. Or possibly the morally dubious pronouncements and plays of one Oscar Fingal O'Flaherty Wills Wilde.
Just the mention of "Comstock Act" is enough to time travel back about 140 years. Oh, I can't buy "Light on Dark Corners" by ordering through the mail?
Very much afraid those pro-Comstock people DO want to ban D.H. Lawrence (which I can't stand, but not because of Lady Chaterley, but because of the racist nonsense in Plumed Serpent) and Hitachi magic wands.
Late... but when Comstock died, he was found to have one of the world's greatest collections of porn. For research purposes, naturally!
Every vile article for indecent or immoral use? Can we can the Felon from distributing his vile, dishonest, immoral propaganda using the Comstock act?
Ta, Robyn. Yes, put the Comstock Act through the shredder.
Seeing that big face of Comstock made me want some balance. so, here is Henry Miller, author of Tropic of Cancer,

and D.H. Lawrence, author of Lady Chatterly's Lover. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:D_H_Lawrence_passport_photograph.jpg
Brings back a memory.

Good point. Too many lewd and lascivious stories in that book.

Nah, I don't want to fuck over the usps. They are far too valuable, even with nasty Mr. DeJoy still(!) in charge.
No such luck.
“While the original provision of the Comstock Act (18 U.S.C. § 1461) is only applicable to the U.S. postal system, and thus it has been upheld on Postal Clause grounds, the 1909 amendment (18 U.S.C. § 1462) applies to both the U.S. mail and a common carrier. ” - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comstock_Act_of_1873#:~:text=The%20Comstock%20Act%20of%201873,or%20certain%20abortion%2Drelated%20matter.

Fix Comstock with a Bumpstock.
Cue Republicans saying “This is nothing but a distraction from the important Congressional work we should be doing!” in 3…2…1…

I'm more of an ephedrine and Fanny Hill* type of broad, but to each their own.
*Never actually read Fanny Hill but I’ve always wanted to.
