People tend to forget that the main qualifications for a surgeon are gunslinger reflexes and a great memory. Contemplative rational synthesis is not high on the needs list.

This fall, I get to stand for reelection to the board of our little community services district. (I was appointed to a vacant seat). It will be my first personal contact with electoral politics. Since I'm in the foothills, it's possible that the fact that I'm an atheist Democrat will be a problem. I guess we'll see.
