Principles are never worthless. Good judgment tells you the best way to stand by them in order to improve the situation as much as possible. If you insist on holding out for 100% of what you want, you may get nothing of worse. People who refused to vote for Clinton "on principle" helped Donald Trump.

In this case we know the appointee will be a Repub and we know that some are worse than others. None of them agree with my principles, but I'd still rather have the lesser of the evils.

It's one of the things we've tried to grow out of.

Nobody expects... Yah, the Spanish are very good at being cruel.

Thought that was Klingon ... ?

No, it's Spanish. It got labelled Klingon for the movie because it sounds Klingon. But believe me, you could hardly find a maxim more Spanish than that one.

Stephen mentions, "... Arizona itself is crazy conservative". I'm not so sure of that anymore. They are increasingly purple (damn urbanization!) and the race for Flake's seat will be close. So, if AZ Republicans, and Governor are smart, they will look to a moderate Republican will broad appeal to appoint to McCain's seat -- and Cindy McCain fills that description extremely well.

Hip hip hooray for dynastic rule!

Oh, wait........

Isn't that originally a Klingon proverb?

“The Republican voter electorate in the state is so extreme Jeff Flake basically quit because he couldn't see how he could win the primary and continue looking at himself in a mirror.”

IMO, this is being extraordinarily generous to Jeff Flake.

And as the bikers at the McCain rally in Sturgis chanted: "Cindy, Show us your boobs" At which John smiled his famous smile. Go Cindy!

Not good enough for me. I think I've had enough of pettiness in matters of who gets to represent the voters, thanks.
