It's pretty safe to do that out in the burbs...but I'd never do it in Chicago. Out here, people freak the hell out if you honk at them.

Thank god you aren't a cop...that's a death penalty offense right there.

My front lawn is mostly native plants, we do have to keep some grass to keep it "kept" looking, but I'm seriously considering replacing it with buffalo grass, which is a native short grass. Any way, here is one of the plants that grows in my front yard. Missouri Primrose. https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

my brother got rid of all grass in front of my parents' house . . . replaced a lot with bark mulch (the real stuff not that chipped-wood crap) and the rest with ground cover (Vinca Minor, the perennial) . . . with showy specimen shrubs (yes, he was a shrubber too) and bulbs that poked right up through the mulch it was almost maintenance-free except for once-a-year pruning.

best looking front yard in the city!

If your mom isn't done looking for shrubberies, I highly recommend Fothergilla. They're native to SE US, but I have them up here in zone 5. There is a short variety, and a taller variety, none of which get very tall. They have beautiful, bottlebrush shaped, vanilla scented flowers in the spring, and in the Fall they turn amazing shades of red, yellow and orange. They make a nice foundation planting.

Give me asshole in a truck on clark street ANYDAY over the burbs.

(I'm mostly north side/pilsen but biked to Glenview last week for a family thing. Just to prove that i could. THAT was terrifying).

Not entirely "their own", but laced with eau de landfill, extract of brownfield, and other people's poop.

They seem to think that babies are a form of punishment for women who have sex.

Interestingly, men are exempt.

It's not all about ObamaCare. They also want to get rid of SS and Medicare.

As nearly as I can figure--and it's difficult--they all expect to be raptured before our planet becomes uninhabitable.

Is it unkind of me to wish that the whole lot of them could be raptured away right now?

Alien abduction would also work, though I'm not sure what into the aliens could hope to garner from this lot.
