But how are we supposed to see the violence inherent in the system?

I generally try not to recall French vocabulary words when I'm being choked out. Unless it's the safe word.

I use "aluminium". I figure a metallic element is sufficiently unlikely to come up organically.

Well, we lost due to fanfiction, not reality. So I do not think that is the problem...especially since in many ways the memes shared alternately have the left as extremely powerful through β€œcanceling” yet are simultaneously lily-livered vegans driving Priuses.

This response is not based in unrelenting hatred of and violence towards The Other.

No wonder nobody respects us, huh?

That said, I also humbly submit that Wonkette's comments policy does not have the national impact your comment suggests.

Great post. "There are no virtuous fossil fuels." I get this dark feeling sometimes that virtue has gone out with the Permian and Carboniferous ages that brought us the fossil fuels that are now destroying us. I get this ironic sense that the planet provided the means of it's own destruction.

Sorry, I get this existentialist angst sometimes. /sigh

also, just took a bong hit.

Greg's avatar

I know a lot of people will disagree with me but we really need more nuclear reactor power plants - the newer generation is so much safer and efficient.

https://fee.org/articles/why-nuclear-power-is-quietly-making-a-big-comeback-all-around-the-world/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiApY-7BhBjEiwAQMrrEZt_9G4uEjA1emJkgyadheNz4Ox688viIUENT0exn1GD6frQ2e0bmBoCUUsQAvD_BwE

Has the nuclear waste problem been figured out? No. Should we continue to dump carbon in the atmosphere due to bureaucratic inefficiency and nimbyism? I think not. Reasonable people may disagree.

But we gotta do something.

Lefty Wright's avatar

But you still have the problem of disposing of nuclear waste. Until there is a better solution than storing it in swimming pools outside the nuclear reactors it's going to be a major problem.

Greg's avatar

There are solutions, but bureaucratic inefficiency and nimbyism are getting in the way.

IMHO.

Again, civilization needs power, how do we get it most efficiently and without despoiling our water and air?

Choices have to be made. Maybe someday we'll get the holy grail of fusion power, but that's still a way off I think.

Not so much the inflation as the price gouging

And MVP Harris had a plan to address that

Sooo, The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities tells me

"The Constitution makes clear that Congress holds the power of the purse, giving it authority β€œto lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises” and specifying that β€œNo Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by law.” In short, federal taxing and spending requires legislation that is enacted into law."

And yet, Ramalama, a person who couldn't win an election even with Musk's money and "I don't 𝘳𝘢𝘯 in elections, I 𝘣𝘢𝘺 'em" himself have veto power over the US budget...

The coup is over, we lost.

It is most assuredly not President Klan Robe's goal to make prices cheaper for us. It will be austerity with higher taxes for those with lower incomes, to destroy the social safety net and also hurt largely β€œblue” cities and states. More profits for the wealthy will help him and his β€œfriends.”

Remember a lot of Americans voted for this and do not care that he will hurt them so long as Black people get it worse.

OT: I was going to suggest the next movie night show a nice tear jerker movie so we could all have a good cry in our common beer.

But when I started to remember the movies that always make me cry I realized they don't do that thing anymore.

Have I got too old to cry? Or have I just plain cried my last tear ever in this vale of tears?

ziggywiggy's avatar

How do you feel about Scrooged, Die Hard, The Lion In Winter, Trading Places and The Fifth Element which are our next 5 movies between now and Jan. 4? I focus on upbeat and humorous mostly, because that tends to make people feel those things.

So, the NY Times IS refusing to show Luigi Mangione's face. I didn't believe the rumor at first, but today in the Times, there are two stories for him, and the only photo of him is one showing the back of his head.

Whatever you may think of the actual man and the shooting, it really is pathetic that the Times won't show his face. Are we all five-year-olds now?
