Pity about Ivanka. He would have ignored her like he did all the other kids if she hadn't gone out of her way to attract his attention. That makes it even worse, somehow -- that she could have avoided tragedy, but she was young and lacked the guidance of a trusted adult. "Yeah, he does that." is very telling.
