I just wrote my Senator what I feel about all of this:

Dear Senator Budd, I have been around since the early 1950's, so I know how a president should act. From Eisenhower to Biden I have been aware of our country's internal life and relations with other nations. Until Donald Trump came along things were going along pretty well on both fronts. BUT IN SIX MONTHS OF THIS ADMINISTRATION I have witnessed a savage and unrelenting attack on everything we stand for and every ally we have ever had all for the ego of a president who is barely literate.

He is more concerned with pushing down any investigation into his past behavior having sex with female children than with running the country - except for building an unnecessary ball room where the rose garden used to be, giant flags on the White House lawn, and playing golf to the tune of 3.4 million dollars each time. Those things and more than I can relate here. But I will continue.

So.....Here is what I see happening to my country right now:

We have armed gangs roaming the streets of the US assaulting citizens and immigrant-looking people at will, with no accountability for their actions. The videos are horrifying and show a total disregard for the law and any civil right we may have under the US Constitution. But then, under your watch, we are no longer under the US Constitution are we? Six members of the Supreme Court have stripped away our rights, Trump issues Fatwas on anyone who dares disagree with him, MAGA elevates a known Nazi to sainthood after being killed by a Trump supporter, and our allies look on us with horror as ICE deports South Koreans building a new auto plant in Georgia. They will not be back.

Nor will any entity who has witnessed or suffered abuse by this government for just trying to visit here or seek asylum. We are now the kind of country people flee. Is that what you want? A tin pot dictatorship modeled on Hitler's German and Stalin's Russia? You must, because I have not heard a peep out of you, or your fellow Senator, Mr. Tillis. Crickets - that is all I hear from the Republican Party. Crickets.

They say that Nero played his lyre while Rome burned around him. Rome crashed in 456 as Barbarians overran the city and Italy. We do not need any barbarians to invade us, they are home grown because you, MAGA, Trump and his armed and masked bandits and television personality agency heads, cripple and outright destroy our government under Project 2025 all the while promising bread and circuses in 2026. I doubt that will happen, especially as RFK is dismantling the Public Health System, research, and vaccinations, all in the service of taking vitamins and drinking raw milk.

Children have already died from measles. Are you waiting for polio, cholera, West Nile Virus, and Covid to return? Your inaction to stop this insanity, and any mealy-mouthed responses you make make to pacify Trumps fragile ego and protect your own behind, simply clarify to me that you want all this to happen. I do not believe you believe in this country, its history, and our diverse and integrated nation. I do not believe it matters enough for you to take action. Instead all I hear from Republicans are bald faced lies or those well-known and completely ineffectual statements - "I am concerned" - from Senator Collins.

No one of you will be remembered well, and you and your fellows will be properly excoriated long after you and I are dead because you could have defended your nation from certain disaster, but you did nothing. So I am telling you now to stand up for your nation. Do something right for a change. REMOVE DONALD TRUMP AND HIS ENTIRE ADMINISTRATION! Unless you really want a gold leafed third rate Banana Republic to take its place. Right now, it looks like you do.

Ta, Dok. I told you I'd get around to reading this, and now I have. I no longer have anyone living Miser-uh apart from dear Wonketteers. Meanwhile, I've been deleting all the hair-on-fire Dem texts from everyone running for anything, anywhere. I get them because I used to donate through Act Blue, which has abused all of us by giving our phone number away without permission. No money for the DNC, DSCC, DCCC, or any PAC, period. If I find a candidate worthy, I'll contribute via the website for said candidate, punto final. I've had it with this shit, now and forever.

If the MO voters have to keep overriding their legislators with referendums, wouldn't it be easier to just not elect those politicians in the first place?

All those people who are crying over the pure Christian soul that was (in fact, tragically) cut down, have no pure Christian concern for the families they are tearing apart and the goons on the street hunting down innocent families and children.

I wonder what the demographics are for all of the districts in Missouri. Do repugnicans skew young or old? What's the "racial" breakdown of each of the districts now? What's the education level attained for each district? Which are city, which are suburbs, which are geography, er, countryside?

"Republicans already hold six of Missouri’s eight congressional seats. But as a favor to Donald Trump [sic], the Lege sliced and diced the Black population of the Kansas City-area district currently held by Democrat Emmanuel Cleaver"

The other day while watching something online I saw an ad urging a "no" vote on CA's Prop 50, redistricting the state to add more blue seats to counter the RINO gerrymandering of their states to increase the odds of them holding the House in 2026. The ad was run by RINOs whining about how this will deprive their voters the right to vote for them in a direct assault on democracy. The funny thing is that the ad was silent about redistricting in red states that would also constitute a direct threat to voters' rights. A classic example of "we'll do anything necessary to continue our having the power, and fuck you if you don't like it." Apparently the Fulvous Fuckwad and the MAGAdroids realize that they could easily lose their majority when held accountable for their unconstitutional and/or illegal actions.

-----

"Whether the Alito Supreme Court will still follow the plain text of the law is another question altogether."

I don't see any questions on how the Roberts Court will respond. The five RINO partisans (I count Roberts as ½ since he's such a squish, and Barrett as ½ due to her sometimes going partisan and sometimes actually supporting the Constitution) will gladly hand the victory to the Corrupt Coral Coward. Pretty much all of their decisions since January haven't been based in the law or the Constitution but what will make the Whale-sized Pumpkin Wannabe Potentate sing the "Happy Happy Joy Joy" song by Stinky Wizzleteats.

-----

"After the Supreme Court killed Roe v. Wade, voters passed a constitutional amendment last fall to protect the right to abortion"

State Rep. Dirk Deaton (R-ShitForBrains) is correct, Mo is a very conservative state with very conservative morals and ethics which is why the people voted to retain a woman's right of choice... oh, wait....

-----

"it’s little surprise that the other major goal of Missouri Republicans in the special session was pushing through a constitutional amendment bill that would make passing any referendum nearly impossible"

I may be mistaken but I think the Mo RINOs could face strong headwinds in pushing through the amendment above and beyond any challenges in court. Any amendments must be approved by the voters:

> "a bill that would significantly raise the threshold to amend the state constitution through that process. The legislation, once signed by the governor, will ***still need to be approved by voters***." [emphasis added] https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/republicans-are-trying-raise-bar-voters-amend-state-constitutions-rcna230717

(I doubt the voters will shoot themselves in their collective foot by denying themselves of the right to put props or other initiatives on the state ballot and willingly give up the ability to control their own state.)

To add insult to injury;

> "And the Fairness Project, a nonprofit organization that helps progressive groups advance ballot measures, released an analysis this month finding that 148 bills had been introduced across 15 state legislatures this year that proposed weakening the process in some way — a nearly twofold increase since 2023." ibid

Voters in Mo and other states are having none of this shit though:

> "The uptick comes as progressives have found success with ballot measure campaigns to expand or protect abortion rights in state constitutions following the U.S. Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade in 2022. In 2024, those initiatives passed in seven of the 10 states where they were on the ballot, including Missouri." ibid

I live in CA and I see that ad way too often. Yes, Democrats are "anti-democracy" for redistricting, but somehow Rethugs aren't anti-democracy even though they're doing the same thing. I'm used to the hypocrisy by now, but it still pisses me off.

Washington state seems like the perfect number, with ten. lots of states have way too many, and i don't think states with just one person in the House should have two Senators.

Indeed, every state has 2 senators regardless of how many people live in it. What were those wise men thinking when they thought this would be fair?
