Unfortunately Manchin and Sinema seem more dedicated to some recent Senate "tradition" that has changed several times over the past 230+ years as attempts to misuse the filibuster were made. A tradition already filled with holes.

What some of these people pushing Manchin and Sinema to end the filibuster for certain legislation need to ask them is "would you risk your fortune betting that in a similar situation where the Republicans really wanted a bill to pass but the filibuster by Democrats was blocking it that McConnell would not immediately end filibuster rules." Because we know that if he would block a Supreme Court nomination from even a hearing for over 9 months saying it was too close to an election, then just 4 years later push one through the Senate in under two weeks before an election, Mitch would do anything to preserve GOP power.

Unfortunately no one has asked them that, plus their answer would be "I don't know." Which is the same answer as "I don't care".

I don't know that Pence comes off as heroish. More like the dumb-as-mud private who does whatever the even dumber lieutenant tells him.

"We think we've got him nailed down."A few duffel bags shoved full of $100s probably hold him down just fine.No need for nails.

I was being generous with the word, but I'm not too proud to give him credit. He stayed, even after the secret service tried to whisk him away, because he knew the role he had to play and what would happen if he didn't.

I don't understand their motivation. They could be heros for centuries, if they save democracy now.

NB, iPhone/Apple spell check is really really bad with adding ' to everything with an added s. hero's? really Apple?

Eastman was not with DOJ or the WH counsel.

The underlying problem to with torturing detainees is not the legal whitewash. It is the gratuitous cruelty that is the Rethugs raison d'etre.

Manchin and Sinema are dedicated to a) large checks from fossil fuels corporations and b) the promise of a cushy, well-paid, relatively undemanding post-Senate career on some university board or at some neo-fascist, Heritage-style "think tank."

Other than that, Manchin and Sinema are dedicated to a) Manchin and b) Sinema.

That's about all they're dedicated to.

I consider the moral arc of the universe to be as real as the Noah's ark of the Bible. Morality isn't something passively advancing toward the end of the rainbow, neither is it the result of people deciding to do a deity's bidding so they don't get smacked down here or in the afterlife. It's the culmination of many, many choices by many, many people within the context of personal and communal needs, wants, and abilities. As we demonstrate over and over again, many of those choices by many people produce negative (immoral) effects. It doesn't help that anyone can label any behavior as moral or immoral based solely on their individual preferences, biases, and magical thinking. The average person's moral reasoning seems to get stuck somewhere along the brain's development between the ages of six and sixteen.

It's fascinating how little play this is getting from the national press. They were more outraged by AOC's dress for the gala than they are by Eastman's collaboration in a Republican scheme to overthrow a democratic election and install a fascist dictator.

But Chris Cillizza is really excited that polls are looking bad for the Democrats in 2022.

Yeah make that kind of world, and it's not long before some general crime lord decides with their money and guns to upgrade to "warlord" and start taking large swathes of the country.Or option B is that the proletariat that is propping up this country just fucking snaps, and they find out what the Bolshevik Revolution was like firsthand. These things tend to go one of two ways, and either is an extreme.

One thing that astonishes me is how Teh Faithful have clung to TFG all this time. I was certain that the luster would have worn off much more than it has by now. I guess these cockwombles prefer to live in their fantasy world….
