Not only did he start with an outrageous claim emphasized with a bang, but he then explained why it wasn't true (with a not-denial format), then came right out and said some of his own family were illegals.
Sarcasm can certainly be hard to detect sometimes, since most of us don't know each other, and the tone of voice is lost, but I'll take somebody's word if they later make the claim of accidental Poe and their subsequent posts are consistent with that.
