Election A Year Away... Still
Hey everyone, only 365 days left (leap year!) until November 4, 2008, when we hold our massive election things! What a wonderful opportunity to listen to our candidates' stump speeches and teevee bits a few more thousand times before making a lesser-of-sixteen-evils decision, and then regretting it and voting for other people two years later.
The Washington Post and ABC News conducted a massive poll about the state of the country a year before it votes for new people. The Post published the results yesterday, which went against the mainstream belief that everything in Washington is perfect and pretty:
Concern about the economy, the war in Iraq and growing dissatisfaction with the political environment in Washington all contribute to the lowest public assessment of the direction of the country in more than a decade. Just 24 percent think the nation is on the right track, and three-quarters said they want the next president to chart a course that is different than that pursued by Bush.
Mostly, Americans are pissed off that the Bush administration oversees an America that allows pollsters to keep harassing them during Sportscenter , interrupts their primetime shows with confusing YouTube debates, keeps publicizing no-shit discoveries like "Americans unhappy with people being shot in Iraq" and then promises to do all of these things for another year, and then another election.
