Dok, if you want additional insight on this you are welcome to reach out to me. It's a lot less conspiratorial and a lot more complicated and institutional than it appears on the surface.
Thanks for the article. The truck on fire picture is a bit PTSD inducing, lol.
He has been quite successful in convincing the administration that he is working to dig the postal service out of a financial hole. Some of his policies have been successful, some have not, most have caused disruption to the service. In some ways, disruption was inevitable. As someone on the inside, and has had the opportunity to hear him speak and question him in person, I have mixed opinions about him myself.
Ta, Dok. My mother, of blessed and cursed memory, was a postal worker. She started as a clerk sorting mail, became the secretary to the Postal Service Officer, then the secretary to the postmaster, then the head of the EEOC for the Philadelphia region. She's spinning in her grave.
Biden could fire DeJoy today except for comity...And yes I've heard all the arguments about some mystical "board" and if he doesn't like it DeJoy can always sue.
Only the postal board itself can replace him, the [president can not fire him]. Biden can only nominate persons to the Postal Board which he has done. Then the senate has to approve them, then the board has to vote him out.
If I read the postal board Wiki correctly, there are two vacancies Biden has nominated four candidates, including for upcoming vacancies (one of trump's repubs retires in Dec.) somehow, we need to lean on the senate to confirm them.
Here's a quick 'splainer.
"The governing board of the U.S. Postal Service has the power to remove DeJoy, and the confirmation of some Biden nominees to the board increased the odds that it might take such a step, but those efforts fell short: Ron Bloom, a Democratic Trump appointee, threw his support behind the postmaster general. Republican members on the board were in the minority, but with Bloom backing DeJoy, it didn’t matter."So, Biden decided late last year to replace Bloom with Tangherlini, who served as the administrator of the General Services Administration during the Obama administration. The Democratic president also announced that Kan, a Republican and the former deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget, would replace Republican John Barger, an outgoing USPS board member.
Yesterday, those nominees proved so uncontroversial, that they were confirmed without opposition. It took six months, but they were confirmed easily.
Where does that leave us? The Postal Service’s governing board has nine members, but no party is permitted to have more than five members. That’s where this gets a little complicated.t’s tempting to simply count members by party, which shows the board with four Democrats, four Republicans, and an independent. But with one of the Democrats having been appointed by Trump, and one of the Republicans having been appointed by Biden, the partisan lines aren’t as neat as they might appear.
The better way is to count members by president: Biden now has five appointees on the USPS board (three Democrats, one Republican, and one independent), while Trump has four appointees (three Republicans and a Democrat).
In other words, if we put party affiliations aside, Biden’s picks now have a majority, even if Democrats don’t. And while it’s possible that some of the incumbent president’s nominees will go their own way and ignore the White House’s wishes, if Biden’s appointees follow the Democratic president’s vision, this could spell trouble for DeJoy and his controversial postal plan.https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/bidens-usps-picks-confirmed-s-dejoy-rcna28689"
It should've been done right away. If he pushes through the nominees for the vacancies and they fire DeJerk now, Repukes will howl that he's doing it to rig the election and we'll never hear the end of it when they lose.
People just have to use early voting. Vote as early as possible. Dropboxes.
Unfortunately Republicans got this guy inserted and because of the way the rules for the postal board work, you can't remove a bad-faith member. So we have to step around it.
Remember, Republicans hate it when you vote. Check your registration often, because they are fighting hard to destroy registrations. www.vote.org or www.iwillvote.com - act now and make sure that you watch out for their shenanigans.
Vote as early as possible, because even when you have the votes in Republicans are trying to delay tabulation. It's a fundamentally undemocratic, unreconstructed party and we need all hands on deck.
I get my ballot by mail, so I can research everything, then take it to the nearest dropbox. Then track it. DeathSantis appointed a corrupt minister who was a county comissioner but was so stupid the 'r's knew he wasn't going to get reelected. Mind you, the retiring Supervisor of Elections recommended his highly qualified, experienced assistant of 20 years, but DeathSantis picked the developer's puppet instead. The puppet got trounced in the primary, and the assistant will now win in the general. I actually voted in my district, in the primary because there were reports that he was not counting mail in ballots.
I get most of my important mail through a US mailbox at Ramstein air base. Loss is very rare, but timeliness is an issue. My US mail gets here quickly or not so quickly based upon when the next jet leaves New York headed to Frankfurt with with bags of mail.
I thought the board which put him there just had some new (democrats) added. It was my understanding that the republicans had the majority and that they’ve been replaced-as their time is up. So seems to be DeJoy could be ejected.
Two vacancies waiting to be filled, but I think they're filling one partisan seat. Since there's also Republicans, you conceivably have to have them on board (along with "independents") to fire DeJoy.
That was me. I got cancelled. For no reason that I know of - I haven't moved since 2011, haven't changed my name, I am not a felon nor been athwart of the law. I have visited the local USPS office several times and they brush me off by telling me to fill out a card (which I do) and nothing happens.
My voter registration got cancelled - probably due to the USPS sending back some form to the county saying "I'm not here, man".
I re-registered online and asked to have the county send all information to me via email. I am a registered democrat now and would moon Dejoy if I could. Trust me, he wouldn't want that.
Check your registration at least once a week. If, like me, you experienced the bullshit merry-go-round then check your registration bi-weekly or even daily. The closer we get to open voting, the less time you have to correct your status. CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION.
Biden has had a few major screw ups, including not putting Post Office board members in who would fire DeJoy. It takes a little work but Democrats have control of the Senate so it's not an insurmountable task. Has he forgotten the disruption DeJoy brought in certain large cities by delaying mail deliveries by shutting down several sorting centers just a couple if months before election day. Delaying (or is that DeJoying) not only return of mail in ballots but delaying delivery of ballots to houses, sometimes making it impossible to get ballots returned in time. For example if I plan to go overseas for a month on October 6 and my ballot is not delivered to my house until October 10, I might never get it in Tibet.
Another screw up was appointing Merrick Garland as attorney general and leaving him there for over three years. Another is his handling of Gaza. Israel has a right to defend themselves and make Hamas accountable for the massacre of Israeli civilians. But he does not have the right to bomb a school housing hundreds of refugees chased from shelter to shelter because a Hamas leader might be hiding under a school desk, killing dozens of Palestinian civilians, including children. Collective punishment is illegal in modern warfare, something someone needs to mention to Biden since he continues to make excuses for indiscriminate bombing of civilian targets. Sorry, it might cost you a few more casualties to go in and root out the terrorists but them's the rules Bibi.
The easy solution of dropping a thousand pound bomb in the cafeteria is illegal and a war crime since the IDF knew hundreds of civilians were taking shelter in the school building. Saying you might have given them five minutes to leave doesn't change that, especially when warnings are going out every 15 minutes somewhere and civilians are being chased from refuge to refuge every few days with nothing except what they can carry on their backs.
There is no appropriate ratio of civilian deaths to enemies eliminated, although unfortunately some civilians will certainly die in rooting out terrorists. But you have to make every reasonable effort to limit it. Especially when the Palestinian people are fenced in in Gaza with no country accepting them as refugees. In fact some refugees in Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon are still in refugee camps they fled to decades ago. With no citizenship rights anywhere. Gaza is like Whack-a-Mole but with people being whacked, not plastic moles.
If they tried to pull this during a President Harris administration, she would already have summoned DeJoy into her office for a friendly little chat, along the lines of, "Today is June 1. This fiscal year ends on June 30. It doesn't look like you've been doing the job you were hired to do -- in fact, it looks like you're actively sabotaging it... [significant eyebrow raise] ...Do you LIKE your job, Mr. DeJoy?"
SCOTUS has explicitly stated that the President is immune to the law in the performing the duties of his office.
Fire DeJoy, throw his ass in Gitmo, lower the Dark Brandon sunglasses, look around the room, and say, "Anybody else feel like starting shit? YOU, Mike Johnson? Yeah, didn't think so."
I want this to happen so fucking badly. We can be nice and give him a lawyer if he wants and I really want this part to happen: "lower the Dark Brandon sunglasses, look around the room, and say, "Anybody else feel like starting shit?"
It's a horrible and insane ruling but SCOTUS should have to witness the actual repercussions from a non-Republican. Maybe then they'll do something about this "presidents can do whatever they want and we can't even question their motives" bullshit.
I honestly don't see it changing unless/until a Democratic president calls their bluff and does something like the above.
I walk or ride my ballot to the ballot box, as do the others in my household. And I live in a "blue" state.
It's especially the blue states that deJoy screws with.
Dok, if you want additional insight on this you are welcome to reach out to me. It's a lot less conspiratorial and a lot more complicated and institutional than it appears on the surface.

Hasn't that asshole been replaced yet?!

Is anybody surprised by this? That’s why DeJoy got the fucking job.
I know there is a board or something and various processes, but it is insane to me that fucker is still in that job.
Biden could fire DeJoy today except for comity...And yes I've heard all the arguments about some mystical "board" and if he doesn't like it DeJoy can always sue.
The real Deep State, innit? A really important Trumpanzee that there was no way to get rid of: Louis DeJoy.
Can't we "official act" his ass?
"... boy, I don’t know."
Delighted that you are as deep as I am into obscure early West Wing references.
Sorry Dok, All I want to know is why DeJoy is still in office or when he will no longer be.
Only the postal board itself can replace him, the [president can not fire him]. Biden can only nominate persons to the Postal Board which he has done. Then the senate has to approve them, then the board has to vote him out.
Got any ideas about actions we can take?

Many thanks, that's the most thorough explanation I've ever heard. This should be an article, very helpful.
It’s really complicated, and I really want the senate to approve Biden’s choices. One shitty guy retires in December.
Biden does have immunity for any official acts, just sayin'.
It should've been done right away. If he pushes through the nominees for the vacancies and they fire DeJerk now, Repukes will howl that he's doing it to rig the election and we'll never hear the end of it when they lose.

So we should just mail Hamas those 2,000 pound Mk-84s?
I plan for a minimum of 10 days for first class mail. And often that is not long enough. 14-30 is sometimes the range. Bastards.
I'm not even going to read the article. I'm just going to swan in and yell, "Why hasn't he been fired!!?".
