So I had to explain to some things to some people who voted for this. They seem to think, because the family is mostly white we should be happy and not worry about anything and even the parts of our family who are biracial shouldn't worry.

(Deeep Breath) Yes, you do have to worry. Your grandkids absolutely have to worry. Sorry, I know you think that their mom being white will help, it won't. Not where we are headed. Also, you, in-laws on SSI because you cannot work. I never begrudged you your disability income. It was fair and you should be getting it, but they won't - those people you just handed the keys to the government to? They don't care. You, *YOU* white people joking around at how triggered we are? You are DISPENSIBLE. You say you will die w/o your meds? Guess who doesn't give a shit if you die and likely, wants you to...YEAH *THAT GUY*. IF you can't work or make white babies you are absolutely dispensable. I would hope that none of this comes to pass, and I would hope that you'd care that real people are going be killed by this crap, but no, it'll kill you and you won't care because you think you're getting your revenge on enemies who literally don't exist.

Well Rage typing adds up to many mistakes - this has been edited

I feel you. I already cut ties to my family years ago, when my mom was posting on Facebook that we might have to have a civil war if “they keep trampling our rights.”

She’s on disability SSI. One of my sisters married a Hawaiian and recently had a kid. Does my mom think racism is something that only happens to people who don’t have their papers?

I guess it’s never crossed her mind that dumb, hateful people don’t care where you’re from or what your immigration status is, they’re just looking for “others” to take their unhappiness out on.

Ta, Dok. We love Liz. One of my few regrets from the 2020 primary is not getting on the selfie line when she spoke at the Washington Square arch. She was, and is, amazing.

The GOP has No leadership other than Trump. he's 78 years old and has never led the healthiest lifestyle. Do you suppose building their whole agenda around him may not have been a wise idea?

They’re going to replace him with JD Vance, who is an empty suit who will serve as a shill for Peter Thiel, who wants to replace the value of the dollar with cryptocurrency as well as systematize and legalize literal apartheid.

Heather Cox Richardson and Leigh the Politics Girl did a segment on this in their conversation IMMEDIATELY after the Dem Convention, which at this point was so long ago I can barely remember how many months ago it was.

Confederate Republicans have been planning this iteration of their 400-year plan for the past 50 years, starting with Reagan pricing college out of reach for all but the richest White Americans when it used to be FREE, when he realized that "too many" Black people were getting educated for his taste - which should in turn help you understand why mobster Donald is squawking about "reparations for White people" and threatening university endowments to get it, because he wants all Black people poor and unable to get an education and White people to remain uneducated because ignorant people are easier to manipulate.

Fascism moves faster in the end stages. If you want to not drown, you may have to work a little harder than you have been in the past to keep up.

You know what else this is a sign of?

That the Democratic Party has demonstrably moved left over the years. In the Daschle era Warren would've been easily turfed.

Also a sign of who's really on our side.

I'm still particularly angry about Sherrod Brown and I'm going to say it again and again till I'm blue in the face. It's not about the economy; it never WAS about the economy. Populism nowadays is just about getting some sort of fig leaf justification to eliminate vulnerable minorities. And a large number of people were willing to believe basically right wing media fanfiction about the Democratic campaigns in service of their infinite culture war. Because they know that bigotry works.

Expand full comment

It's not about the macro economy. Bigotry of all kinds was given cover, yes. I do think the price gouging should have been addressed by government but it wasn't. That DOES affect people day-to-day, especially if they're living paycheck to paycheck. The evil fucks controlling trump DO want to hurt and eliminate "minorities," and DO want to control female reproduction. They DO want to impose their version of religion on everyone. I have to stop thinking now before I burst into tears again. Fuck Merrick Garland

Expand full comment

People don't like being gaslit about "the economy"... being told it's doing great when they are not. Corps raise prices during Dem administrations, especially Big Oil, because that raises everything else, and people will blame the Dems for it. So they vote for the rethugs who BO loves for the whole deregulation thing. But for some weird reason the fact that Trump got Putin and Bone Saw to decrease oil production... in order to "save" Big Oil... was never widely disseminated. Almost as though the MSM had some interest in letting Biden look bad. A week before the election Mark Cuban said this to Hannity...! A week! And Hannity didn't dispute it. WTF?

Also, I'll see you a "Fuck Merrick Garland", and raise you a "mealy-mouthed, timid, pissant". (Plus Joe for picking him. Jeezus!).

I beg to differ. both Parties have moved right. The GOP much more so than the Democrats. At this point Eisenhower and Rockefeller would be considered socialists, Reagan left of center, Johnson and the Kennedys outright commies and Goldwater barely right of center.

I will *guarantee you* you wouldn't have been able to get even the IRA out of the 2010 Congress. There is transformative stuff. You wouldn't have been able to get even the temporary child tax credit out of it. The recent Dem congresses had Manchinenema as their millstones.

In the time of the sausage-making ordeal to get the ACA passed (taking an incredible time and deathbed voting by Senators, and the knock-down-drag out fight to deny Al Franken victory in Minnesota), we had at least 10 versions of Manchinenema (and accordingly we will never have Senators from those conservative states again). At the time we had Senators in Arkansas, Missouri, South and even North Dakota. We had Dems in Montana.

Expand full comment

I don't think there is a reliable indicator for where the Democratic Party is right now on the spectrum...who is the leader of the Party now?

We moved Left with the Chips Act and the Infrastructure Act and the Inflation Reduction Act and trying to keep child tax credits in the budget and a thousand other things that we were TOLD could not get thru Congress.

Where are we now? Let the Debates begin....

Obama was for civil unions. OHJB pushed him to the left on that issue.

Right you are -- and it couldn't have been about "the economy" because most of the U.S. electorate has no idea how "the economy" works (or that the White House doesn't control it).

You can't tell people they aren't hurting. And corps raise prices during Dem admins to make them look bad. Rethugs get voted in, and deregulate. Win-win for the fat cats.

I think both can be true. People have no idea, so they vote red because they're living paycheck to paycheck. These are low information voters we're talking about.

Sen. Warren is the only person in the US Senate who understands how the US finance system works. Possibly in the entire Congress.

Wall Street hates her and can't wait to attend her funeral and get sloppy drunk. I don't know how likely President Biden ever was to have named her to a Cabinet position, but Wall Street told him flat-out not to even consider it.

Rep. Porter had some idea how this shit works, which is why the Crypto Bros spent millions to get her out, even though Porter wasn't ever really anti-crypto. Just understanding how Finance and Crypto work is enough for Wall Street and The Bros to be willing to spend large dollars to get somebody gone.
