He's also jepardising Twitter's status as a "social media site" rather than an "edited publication". A French government minister pointed that out. And if it becomes an "edited publication", that means Musk becomes legally responsible for ALL the content on the site. Which is a position he does NOT want to be in.

I had about 300 people I follow on twitter, and 100 following me. 300 I follow on mastodon by now ... maybe 150, 200 old accounts ... and then whatever new/interesting user showed up somewhere.(the neat thing is that you can use tools like fedifinder to scan your twitter contacts for those mastodon IDs, export them, and import them on mastodon ... 1 minute)

Of course: some accounts I really like aren't there yet ... that for sure feels bad. But for those, there would always be nitter.net to occasionally check their content.

And a lot of people have setup automation bots there ... so you get content from Axios or CNN twitter, too.
