Blumenthal and Murphy are my senators. Both are playing a long game, and you can question that, but it's what politicians do. Murphy's end goal seems to me now to be the presidency, and I hope he makes it; he's smart, tough, and clear-eyed. But he also came out early after the election to say Dems should abandon identity politics, by which he meant, mainly, trans people.
Blumenthal is not similarly swift. But he's been at this a long time and he understands when and where compromise is necessary, if distasteful. If you think he's soft, check out his voting record. Murphy voted to confirm Aileen Cannon, something he can never undo. Blumenthal has been a reliable progressive from the start.
My point? Easy comparison/contrasts inevitably fail to do justice to anyone's entire career.
