The fact that 35% of Americans support this illegal invasion and kidnapping continues to impress upon me how utterly ignorant and downright stupid that 35% continues to be. I have nothing but contempt for them and anger toward them for what they have allowed themselves to believe and how it has so greatly damaged our country.

i mean the only silver lining is WAY less than Iraq or Afghanistan in the early days (if you're old enough to remember). at least the majority of us know this is a shit idea.

The same halfwit who staged a failed coup pretends to claim that another nation's leader is illegitimate. Why would someone like that need Congress' rubber stamp? At least, Trump and the Supremes DO things, even if they are evil. Congress DOES nothing at all, except collects paychecks and fund very generous pensions for its corrupt members. Face it. There is no law or government left in the United States. How long does it take to declare a rapidly burgeoning kleptocracy a failed state.

Nothing says “stable superpower” like shopping for ballroom tile while a war kicks off behind some sheer curtains. Drugs were the excuse, oil was the punchline, and Congress was apparently busy returning emails from 2019. Watching this get justified in real time is like listening to someone explain why stealing your neighbor’s car is actually a wellness check. Amateur hour, but with missiles.

I will continue to ask: Do the EU and NATO (excluding the US) not have capabilities such as those Putin has used upon his opponents? Or as TFG just applied in Venezuela? There seem to be many opportunities within our current illegitimate, corrupt regime.

The EU and NATO have principles. Not a lot when push comes to shove, but they do have them. Same goes for Ukraine, though honestly I would think it is amazing if Ukraine takes out Putin in exactly the same way, they are operating within Russia territory, so we know they have the capability to at least make a credible attempt.

Those principles need to be applied to their self-protection, by any means possible, against our rogue "leadership" which threatens the safety of the entire world.

"By any means possible" and "principles" do not belong in the same sentence.

Anyway, they're also cowards (mostly NATO) and in the pockets of big business (mostly EU), so don't hold your breath.

Ta, Marcie. Fiona Hill knew *exactly* what was coming, she just could not have known when.

And Venezuelan oil is no fucking prize. It's very difficult to refine "sour" crude. I don't know how that difficulty stacks up against that tar sands shit in Canada.

I read that 80 civilians were killed on the attack on Caracas. Question for Ichabod Crane/Tom Cotton: What kind of law enforcement activities involve killing 80 people?

OK, so agreed that this move will probably play out about as well as other American experiments in "regime change" (or, snatching of leader in this case) but what I want to know is how Maduro manages all of these changes of outfit?!? From the Nike Tech hoodie on the helicopter to the comical "Happy New Year" hat in NYC, blue jumpsuit, etc does he have a team of stylists following him around?

Healthcare, housing, and schools at home?

You want healthcare? Join the Army.

You want housing? Join the Army.

You want schooling? Join the Army.

Don't worry MAGA. With the number of warm bodies they're going to need to throw against the insurgencies, they're going to be relaxing their standards. A lot.

For techniques look up Ecodefense: A Field Guide To Monkeywrenching. It is an old document though, so do not just blindly follow what it says, technology has advanced a lot.

Sadly some of us may wake to this horror on US soil. We've been good at keeping the front line "somewhere else" for a very long time. How far can our nation push asshole behavior toward other nations? Our government needs to take a long look at ourselves. We refuse to provide basic health care or childcare while expecting people to work. We refuse to feed people in need. We refuse to house people who can't provide for themselves. We cut benefits to veterans who have protected us. The us president pardons criminals and drug lords. While pumping more oil than ever, we go after more that is not ours to get. We support AI which is endangering the world, the human race. The US president is a criminal who cannot be prosecuted thanks to our corrupt "supreme" court. People with zero credentials are placed in positions allowing them to actively harm large numbers of people. Misinformation is spread.

I won't start in on ICE and the activities of that horror.

What is it going to take to get our asleep Congress to act on any of this.

Women and reproductive rights are being systematically disenfranchised, removed. The paralysis is unbelievable. I don't have answers but I still have hope. Do your research. Being a Democrat does not mean that someone is on the side of the people. Please VOTE.

One of the most galling things for me is witnessing good, decent people in other nations having to eat tons of shit at the hands of an abysmally stupid bully who must be appeased because he has the power and might of the U.S. Armed Forces at his command. And he was given that power because too many people in this country are ignorant, racist shits.

Here's the big irony, the one place where there would be inarguable jurisdiction for the US to pursue a complaint against another nation's head of state would by the International Criminal Court, which the US government has refused to participate in for literal decades.
