Someone said here recently that Black people may save us. With this statement from Salaam, I believe that will be the case. To respond with zero rancor shows the resilience; a forgiveness and that a carefully worded message can carry so much weight.

I applaud the Salaams, the Willis’s, the Abram’s et.al. who have had the strength to help when they have been put through so much injustice as tireless warriors for saving a democracy that is extremely fragile.

While we are voting, I encourage everyone to support those candidates. They will be instrumental in leading us out of darkness.

Salaam spent 1990 to 1997 -- when he was a teen.

Horrible.

"Matias Reyes, a serial rapist who confessed and whose DNA was a match."

All rape kits should be tested. I think that there are not actually that many rapists, but rapists are serial rapists.

And the reason we can not get the kits tested is because everyone knows some of them are cops.

Just in case, there's still Georgia and DC cases to hear. Florida is a writeoff until after Don Don loses.

I would cast my vote for Yusef Salaam in a heartbeat!

It takes a better man than I am to be that classy. I salute Mr, Salaam and wish him the best.

I can't imagine being that thoughtful and principled after going through that.

Unfortunately, his strength of character will just read as weakness to Trump and his cultists.

fuflans's avatar

don't give a shit.

we need to be as strong and graceful as he is.

"M"'s avatar

WE DO NOT HAVE TO CARE WHAT THEY THINK.

WE ONLY HAVE TO VOTE THEM OUT OF POWER.

I'll keep saying it.

Rachael's avatar

I wish I could, but as a Canadian I will do the next best thing and vote against Pierre Poilievre.

President Klan Robe is not going to be incarcerated because they all know it would kick off all the stochastic terrorism, and the MSM would shit a brick (they need to be able to diss Dems after all and this isn't so easy.)

I applaud Mr. Salaam's grace, though I do in my heart find it a little tiring that Black people do have to show so much grace all the time for the atrocities visited upon us. It's almost expected of us. You don't see this the other way in the United States.

Birb-General of the US's avatar

That's why Black people are the best people in America. They endure this unfairness, fear, and lack of love with supreme grace.

"M"'s avatar

"it would have to kick off all the stochastic terrorism"

Can we be real about whether or not the stochastic terrorism ever really STOPPED since the KKKlan deliberately wrecked Reconstruction ...??

It's a good point and I should amend my statement to say *kick off even MORE.* Or at least even more brazen attacks.

As a white lady, I'm not going to presume to speak for Black people. But every time some dipshit white supremacist shoots up a church or a supermarket with the stated goal of starting a race war and Black people don't respond with the violence the shooters expected them to, I am grateful that the Black community shows so much grace.

"M"'s avatar

As much as I appreciate that, I would ask why it is that so many White folks both appreciate, but also sometimes flat-out demand, that Black people "show grace" in the face of terrorism and abuse ...

... but don't seem quite so keen on putting a sustained effort into *stopping the white terrorist abuse* that would appear to culturally require so much "grace" in response

Because those rules are along lines of color that align with their lifelong biases.

Maybe after seven years in prison Trump might come out a changed man. If he lives through it. I would like to find out.

"M"'s avatar

Nope

Malignant narcissists don't tend to "reform"

He could be a changed man, with a bright new future as worm food.

I think it is only right to give him that chance - we should probably put him in one of those hard labor tough prisons conservatives seem to favor, it would be the right thing to do

Unfortunately I don’t believe THIS conviction will change many minds. Too easy to wave it off with an “Ah, it wasn’t really even a crime, all rich people do it, nobody got hurt, plus he got to bang a porn star!” The people who love him will continue to love him, the people who loathe him with the fire of 1000 suns will continue to do so. And the undecided people are idiots, plus clearly aren’t paying attention.

Lefty Wright's avatar

I don't think this will get any fence sitters to come down on Trump's side as the MAGA crowd seems to believe. "I wasn't sure until Trump was quickly convicted of a bunch of felonies, but now he's my guy!"

Yes, but there are way more of us than there are of them. Let's show them how many of us there are on election day.

What a lovely, humble, good man. I hope he continues in politics.

So please support his reelection so he can continue to serve

MAGAts should be HAPPY if Trump is jailed, shouldn’t they? After all, their hero and puppetmaster, Putin, jailed (and murdered) HIS opponent. Oh wait, the traitorously unAmerican assholes only want to revenge prosecute and murder THEIR opponents, and never ever ever have it done to them. It must be joyous to live in a bubble where “we get everything we want, you get nothing, and we are more Patriotic than you” rules their toddler mindsets.

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

The only thing “we get everything we want, you get nothing, and we are more Patriotic than you” seems to do for the MAGAs is drive them into a homicidal rage.

I just want to point out that evidence showed they were not guilty at the time and I was a mediocre teen and realized that there was something wrong with accusing five boys with rape when the semen matched none of them and only one semen type was found on the vicrim

Um

Yes

But - if we're going to actually be honest for a minute here - racist White people in America are not exactly steadfast about telling the truth about anything

Guilty ‘cuz Black is the depth of Trump’s ‘critical thinking’ skills.

"M"'s avatar

F*** him

He's a symptom of much more longstanding - and bigger - problem

If we didn't have the kind of national cultural environment that enabled his behavior, he might not even have made it down that escalator
