The skies over Memphis are hazy today, and so are we, because we've lost our B.B. King, the King Of The Blues, who died Thursday at the age of 89. The Memphis In May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, one of the world's largest private parties, is in full swing, and our Memphis Grizzlies face Golden State tonight at home, in the game that will determine whether this is the end of our road for this year's NBA playoffs. Win or lose, the city's spirit of
I had the pleasure of working with B.B. many times for his shows as an audio engineer as well as renting them my Hammond organ - wonderful entertainer and a really decent person. He will be missed- the thrill may be gone, but it will never be forgotten
Shoot. No one could make a guitar sing the way B.B. King could, and his voice could make statues cry. Heaven may have B.B. King now, but their barbeque isn't anywhere as good as in Memphis.
the whole family situation had gotten weird for the past few years as it became evident that he was on his final lap. Various factions began to jockey for position. It's a shame, as it became obvious that the only reason he continued to tour was to generate income for the extended family that traveled with him
And from the small stories I've read, he really was a stand-up guy. There was one, today, in Rolling Stone, about how Gibson had made a special guitar for him for his 80th b'day, and a few months later it was stolen. Months after that, it turned up in a pawn shop. The owner got curious because of the stamp on the back, and contacted Gibson, and they id'd it. The upshot was that BB met the guy, and gave him a brand new production model, in exchange for his guitar.
Or the story from a few years ago, where he'd go home to MS every year, and have a bbq and concert for the folks in his hometown, fans and reporters were *not* welcome.
On the other hand, a blues man, who started with that hard a life, making it to 89?
Okay, now I've got the blues....
A true legend and an absolute class act. *grabs my Memphis Made growler* *pours one out*
Gibson is in mourning
The thrill is not gone. Perhaps arranged differently.

And before I start weeping at my desk, you know who else is about to have the blues?

Filling in for George Zimmerman, who's a little preoccupied at the moment.

He'll be missed.

He wasn't the most hardcore, but he was the beginning of a lifelong love of the blues for a lot of people. Including this son of Memphis.
And, yet again, another person with talent, a good heart, and decency has passed on, yet the animated thing that is Dick Cheney is still with us.
The universe sucks.
That was really nice.
