My 89 year old father has gradually drifted to the right over the last few decades, but was essentially a nonpolitical person focused on his family farm. Now he's retired and watches Fox News, and has bought into all the BS. He has received that grant where you rotate where the cattle graze for decades, and renewed it last year. He told me and my brother all about it, because he might not be here when the 10 year grant is up next time. Also, the county where our farm is has a corporate pork processing operation, including hundreds of hog barns and and processing plant, which is mostly staffed by Mexican workers who hopped on a bus the company sent to the border 25 years ago because there weren't enough workers nearby to do the dirty work (which involves a whole lot of smelly pig shit.) If they weren't documented then, they're not documented now (unless they married a citizen, and even then, there wasn't a whole lot of that because racism.

So I'm thinking the economy there is going to collapse at any moment, but he's sticking his fingers in his ears and going "la la la, I don't live in a big city (like I do), so nothing bad is going to happen to us." My brother is supporting him in this, and claims not to care about the value of our potential inheritance, so I'm just ignoring them and focusing on my own shit, because god knows there's plenty of that right now (that they're not-so-secretly snarky about because they think the libs are being owned.)

Modern farming practices use a lot of mentions of the word “diversity”, as in diversification, biodiversity, etc. This government of pinheads is using Grok to filter mentions of *divers* and it’s picking up a ton of unrelated crap. This is straight up laziness and DOGE grifting.

I wonder if they'll be getting after lifeguards who must rescue divers next.

Nothing would surprise me. See their tremendous work erasing the Enola Gay. They’re using Grok and getting racist garbage results which is what they wanted.

Given our crop yields in Mexico are at their worst in 50 years, and we have farm yeild records (and weather records) going back 500 years, there's no real political or other question that climate change is real. And something the state takes very, very seriously, considering massive overhauls of water management, energy production, etc. That the US is our largest food importer, between the tariffs and the crappy agricultural policies of the US (especially when it comes to GMO crops), Mexico is seriously looking at other import sources... score another loss, both environmentally and economically, for the US... "thanks Trump".

Is the $10 banana thing still funny? It sounds like it's about to be a lot less funny.

Yes, you'll have no bananas. You'll have no bananas... if not today... than soon.

I'm pushing 70, but was hearing about, and being taught about, the coming human-created climate change, and the disaster it would mean for ... everthing... way back as a freshman at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

There is no requirement that you grow food in order to eat food. However, there ought to be a requirement that you know a little something about it, as in how plants grow, why temperate zones are important, why drought is bad, and why poisoning and or eroding topsoil is a net negative. Then again, these clowns know Jack shit about the Constitution either, so why am I even surprised?
