60 years ago white Alabamians were murdering black Alabamians for even trying to vote. Now the rear guard of White Supremacy has been pushed back to squabbling in court over overtly racist maps. It still isn't enough, but, looked at this way, we do after all seem to be on the winning side.

Even Assmouth-appointed judges don’t care much for being told to go pound sand. Comes from being in a lifetime gig with no accountability.

They shoulda gone judge shoppin'. Ohio had four maps declared unconstitutional by the state Supreme Court. The Republicans found a federal Trump appointee who came right out and said that, if the case landed in his docket, he'd find for the Republicans and went so far as to point out which of the four maps he'd designate the state would have to use.

All Alabama’s legislature is trine to do is reset the clock until they get through another election, repeat ad nauseous.

Now if someone would just f*cking fix Ohio..

It's a miracle! So, is the special master going to get the map redrawn in time for it to be used for the 2024 elections?

With the right data-crunching software I imagine they could draw a new map, down to the house numbers, before lunchtime.

I should think so. They’ve probably got over 6 months before primaries, and it honestly can’t take anywhere near that long.

NPR said Alabama insists it must have a final map by October of this year to be ready for primaries. So I’m guessing they’ll find a way to not be ready.

It’s up to the Special Master now, not the state. My guess is the new map will be ready with time to spare.

Alabama the Home of proud White Supremacists. It is not an accident that a proud white supremacist like Tommy Tubberville would have coached there. These white Alabamians want real life to be like college football. Where Black players work for free, white coaches call them "son" or "sob" depending on their mood, and everybody knows their place in the hierarchy.

Good, this sets a precedent for Florida who also has an unresolved gerrymandering issue, hope for Democracy πŸ’™.

I wrote a non-comment yesterday where I erroneously attributed this mess to Mississippi, not Alabama. My regerts

Calling the collection of huckleberry doo-dahs that is white Alabama inbred is a tired trope, but ya gotta kinda wonder why they never have any new ideas.

β€œThey like THERE white supremacy…” As they’d say in Alabama.

They'll ignore it again. The Federal Government is only useful when it decides FOR them.

Ironic they need a Special Master to fix a racist map...

As I do from time to time, I remind you of the words of Alabama's native son, John Lewis.

"Ours is not the struggle of one day, one week, or one year. Ours is not the struggle of one judicial appointment or presidential term. Ours is the struggle of a lifetime, or maybe even many lifetimes, and each one of us in every generation must do our part."
