There ought to be some sort of statute of limitations that prevents people being hurt by retrospective changes to laws. OK if DACA ends up being ruled unconstitutional so be it, but the people who've relied on it as good law for 11 years shouldn't suffer because of it. Legislatures recognise a similar fairness principle when they "grandfather" changes to laws which exempt people who have organised their lives on the basis of the law being amended.

Expect the media to promote the "Hispanic" (because you've gotta put in quizzical quotes any single term that claims to encompass groups as different as, say, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Nicaraguans, and Hondurans...)voters who will cheer this because "I/my parents came here legally!!!" and to predict the absolute demise of the Democratic Hispanic vote...

The last thing Republicans want during a Democratic presidency is for immigration to be solved. They make their living shouting "OpEn BoRdErS" at every opportunity.

"‘Sick and disturbing’: Critics slam ‘family values’ Kristi Noem over alleged affair with former top Trump aide"

https://www.rawstory.com/sick-and-disturbing-critics-slam-family-values-gop-governor-over-alleged-affair-with-former-top-trump-aide/

"South Dakota Republican Governor Kristi Noem has been engaged in a "years-long clandestine" extra-marital relationship with former top Trump aide Corey Lewandowski, according to the Daily Mail. Governor Noem, who celebrated her 30th wedding anniversary last year, is 51 and has three children. Now she is the target of critics who are blasting what they see as her "hypocrisy.""

Who is he entertaining, I'd like to know.

I'm watching the British TV series "The Supersizers Go ..." and one episode is set in Edwardian times, when the upper classes regularly ate 9-course meals that cost more per meal than the average person earned in a year, and the rich food and obesity had killed many of them before they were 50. Nothing changes. ♫♪ "The rich get richer and the poor have children..."♬

Well, let's be honest. Who is going to check a box on a government form that says "Yes, I am using or have used illegal drugs"?

There used to be a question on IRS tax forms (might still be for all I know) asking if you earned any income from illegal gambling. I wonder if anyone was ever stupid enough to check that box.

Expand full comment
Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

There's a question on the gun form: Are you a member of a terrorist organization?

Best to check the no box on that one, too, if you really want the gun.
