OK, I haz a confused. I distinctly remember reading that "The Force" in Star Wars was really the love of the Christian God, because He loves blowing His enemies into colorful smithereens, or something like that.
It couldn't possibly be that Star Wars is one of those stories that draws on broad themes of courage, loyalty. self-sacrifice, vague spirituality, etc., thereby allowing anybody to read anything into it...could it?

Spice can be read as a metaphor for Big Oil, but I saw the general themes as bearing more "classical" references.

definitely- the movies/series sucked. In all fairness, I'm not sure it could be done properly, Dune is way too dense to translate to film
