i am curious - what do the non commentors think death santis chances of being re-elected as governor are? i don't think he has a chance in hell at being the prez, but do you think his state will return him to the gov's mansion?

I think he is term limited from running for governor again, hence the attempted national power grab, sad thing is he can serve out rest of his term as governor when he loses presidential run.

unless he decides to do away with term limits - i wouldn't put it past him, but thanks for the learning!

"The ocean continues to absorb excess heat, sparing land-dwellers the worst of climate change impacts for now,"

The ocean will no longer be able to absorb as much heat once there is no summer ice in the arctic, which scientists anticipate by 2035. After that, atmospheric temps will begin to rise very quickly and it's game over.

Of course, warming is happening much faster than climatologists expected (because someone is lying about their emissions (remember the volkswagon emissions scandal from a few years ago? Think that, but on the scale of nations)) so an iceless artic will probably happen sooner than 2035.

I fully expect we'll all be dead by 2040.

I have been having the same thoughts. We put in a net zero solar system 6 years ago that generates 80%of the power we use in a year, we have reused, recycled and composted everything for years. All in the name of reducing our carbon footprint . I also think that we'll all be dead a whole lot sooner than I thought 5 years ago. I usually keep these thoughts keep these thoughts to myself, lest I be accused of being morbid or giving up. I am not giving up.

I see that Taylor Swift's tour is being carried by 80 semi tractor trailers, burning diesel across the land so 100's of thousands of fans can drive miles to watch her lip sync all of her hits in front of a million watt video wall. So it goes.

Arizona doesn't have high humidity to go with the high temperature.

The only thing Florida has going for it is it's surrounded by a hot tub.

I'm just commenting to prove that I can. I still pay through Paypal so I am what may be called a Clandestine Contributor, unsung and all that, yet deeply appreciated and somehow pretty good. And I still come here for relief from all that is a greedy lie.

I'm almost 60 yrs old. We've known about this my entire adult life. I really don't feel bad for people anymore. The only excuse is deliberate ignorance, so enjoy it. The rest of us have work to do hoping to mitigate some of the disaster.

Next, probably another puff piece on ''Oppenheimer'', made by another division of reich-wing owned Comcast.

''... so you can thank AC for George W. Bush’s presidency.'

Uh, no, you can thank the people who voted for Green Party candidate Ralph Nader instead of Al Gore. If just ⅓ of the people who voted for him had voted for Gore instead, there would've been more that enough votes to avoid a run-off and Gore would've won the presidency.

Instead of wasting money on climate change mitigation in Florida, let's have a one year refugee program: we'll evacuate you out and help you start over; after that, no further Federal money for any reason.

The property we have to buy to make this happen can be resold to those who think DeSantis Florida is their kind of place; with any luck we recover much of the money spent on refugee services.

Should have been more clear: Florida is forever cut off from Federal money, not the refugees.

Dorothea is a Democrat's avatar

I would just like to point out that whenever there is a problem that the GOP don't want to address, they fall back on the old trope of politicization. Democrats are evil for politicizing children getting shot in their schools in order to take away your guns! Democrats are evil for politicizing 125-degree heat in order to justify measures to ameliorate the effects of non-existent climate change.

I feel so evil.
