Hello Marion's avatar

Did these people spring as fully formed 50-year-olds from Billy Graham's forehead, or have they just forgotten what it was like to be an actual human American child? Every kid in the neighborhood knew where their dad/older brother stashed his porn magazines, or where the sexxxxay parts were in the books their parents had in the bookcase, or how to scan the Cinemax guide to pick exactly the softcore movie to watch with the sound turned all the way down while on sleepovers. It doesn't matter what they ban; their kids have already consumed content that's 100x more explicit than Gender Queer but lacks the educational content.

I will bet no one censored his reading growing up.

We might be better off if someone had kept him away from the big fiction book full of smut and violence that he worships.

An example of why Tallahassee Mussolini is worse than Hair Furor. Hair Furor was out there on the fascist right but there were buffers that kept him somewhat in check, like Nancy Pelosi. There is nothing holding back Tallahassee Mussolini, he is just out there race bait governing with a Rethug legislature happily marching in lock step.

TBH, the only assholes who give a shit are those who are happily looking for reasons to disrupt and damage our educational system either in an organized fashion (by going after and burdening libraries) and an asshole fashion (the little shit who whines about "perverse" books to send Daddy and Mommy and their church against a teacher they don't like).

Ta, Dok. Thanks for the gift link; I did read it. As a long-ago nerd kid, the library was my refuge. I hope the lawsuits succeed.

I still can’t get over the fact that there’s a state law that assumes all books are guilty of being unfit for children until proven innocent. And it required schools to review every goddamn book in their possession to make sure there were no gay penguins.

And we have teachers who can’t let children read stories about escaped slaves lest someone’s white fragility be damaged.

Wtf is wrong with Florida?

You shouldn't judge a book by the cover. I know this, and I'm generally better than this. But I'm sorry, the man in that banner photo is a pedophile. Just the sight of him makes me want to do a quick welfare check on my own children, and we are all in the same house.

Given his position, I *WILL NOT* take that bet.

Predators seem attracted to moral crusading for some odd reason...

It’s safer to assume every one of those holier than thou moralists is a secret predator. Because they usually are.

Throughout history weakminded assholes have feared books. These people are pantsing themselves in public. Unfortunately with negative consequences for the kids.

Thanks for the free WAPO link to this sad story. The Post may suck with their daily “both sides” crapola, but this is real journalism.

If by “Grr” you mean “I would like to set that asshole’s face on fire and beat it out with a golf shoe!” then I must demure.

We non-commenters have rules you know.

"If anything, every now and then I’ll have the worry, “What if today’s the day that somebody shoots up the school?”

Why, that's what thoughts and prayers are for.

They are an embodiment (that doesn't get the joke) of the IT saying "We're not happy until you're not happy"

Cruel, small-minded, hopelessly unhappy, and damn willing to condemn everyone else to that same unhappiness.

It would be pathetic if it wasn't so sad.

And it would be sad if it wasn't so fucking dangerous.
