For once, and probably never again, the state of Florida is actually the source of some Nice Time! You might remember the story last week about Cameron Boland, the junior at Fort Myers High School who was stripped of her elected position as her county's National Honor Society "Historian" -- really more of a social-media/press relations job -- because she gave her campaign speech wearing a sundress with excessively thin straps. (We keep seeing them described as "spaghetti straps," but those are at least linguini straps.) Anyhow, all the negative publicity the story generated seems to have shamed the school district, or at least made it say "Oh well, what the hell," and now the Lee County School District's
I have no comment about most of your post -- you are entitled to your opinion. But the the key fuckup in this incident was that the young lady DID NOT VIOLATE any dress code for the NHS gathering, because there wasn't one. She wasn't "rebelling", she was wearing a (pretty modest) sundress because (1) Florida, in late spring, for goodness sake, and (2) no entity had declared it to be inappropriate for that event.
Among the other things girls shouldn't have to do is read minds.
On one hand we curse the hypersexualization of women and girls. We lament the fact that splashed on every.single.fucking.fashion.magazine there is a picture of a 14 year old girl dressed provocatively. Popular culture continues to treat women as sexy bodies and nothing more. It disgusts me and worries me as a father of two pre-pubescent girls. Actually...the older one is PUBESCENT!!!
When someone decides to make up some "rule" that limits the amount of skin girls can show AT SCHOOL, everyone is all like "republicans are soooo puritanical" "we should be allowed to own our own sexuality" etc etc. We are talking about covering shoulders here...not a fucking burka. If this is a rebellious thing, ok, but the shit as consequences. I've told my kids that if you engage in rebellious behaviour, make it smart, back it with facts, and I will have your back. Otherwise deal with the shit.
I'm left of center. Far left. Ask anyone (preferably the three people who know me). I want all women to feel that their sole value is something more than how they fill in "tights as pants".
Hey. Seen the thread that Ms. Lindsey would have 'rotating' first ladies if he was elected President? He said it today. That one begs for mockery. Oh please, oh please, oh please put that thread up.
And around and around went... oh, wait.
Little nippy in the sundresses.
Hey, I've got a 1915 euphemism ... no, wait, euphonium, that's it.
snowflakes?
"Guys (it's always guys, isn't it?) who are obsessed with homemade explosives seldom understand the simple chemistry and physics of explosives."
Like the simple chemistry and physics that says "They're called EXPLOSIVES for a reason"?
Ow ow ow ow.
Nice.

Axis of rotation is slightly off.
