As a bonus children from dysfunctional families who who do not fill out things like paperwork to get the kids fed also get to eat.So it helps the most desperate children.
That really depends on the neighborhood. I live on the edge of gentrification and to one side there is the pay machine for gas, $2, and sometimes works. One the other side, the air is always free. It is very odd.
Were this a stable situation - and it's not - I would expect, after ten or twenty years, that agribusiness, multinational banks, and green energy companies would be doing far better in blue states. In fact, many companies would leave the red states ASAP just for the healthier and literate workers.
My son's school district is one of those CEP ones. I like him getting free lunches. And the school really tries to make them nutritious too. Also last year they had this program where they offered the kids vegetables or fruit every day -- there was this table set up in the hallway with lots of little cups with the vegetable or fruit du jour in it and when the kids came by in their lines on their way to or from music or PE or wherever they could take a cup and sample a new food. I bet the Republicans wouldn't like that either if they knew it was happening.
Yep. That's my school district all right. It's also a "bad" or "failing" school district which also seems to be code for schools with black children in them. But I send my kid anyway because I want him to grow up with diversity -- that way he'll think it's perfectly normal and ordinary.
Republicans are obsessed about people cheating because that's what they would do.

But their base loves that look!
Make one of the Russians who were bombed because they had to wait two hours in a clump in a war zone to wait for a formal address from the leadership.
You're less off than one would hope, and yet, I'm oddly attracted to them.

Ten years later...

“CEP allows certain schools to provide free school lunches … “
We all know what “certain schools” is supposed to imply: Schools that have Black children in them.

I wonder what the cost of electricity is to run an air pump long enough to fill one danged tyre.
Too soon.
If they work in a meat packing plant they could just eat the product there and eliminate the middle man.
Good catch! Thanks!
