Fox News Celebrates Labor Day Weekend With Class...ism.
Fox News mocks the guy who played Elvin on The Cosby Show for working at Trader Joe's.
This weekend, across America, we will all be celebrating Labor Day Weekend, which most people just think of as an excuse to have a barbecue and a day off from work and not actually a day to honor workers and the labor movement. Unless you're me, in which case you will probably spend most of Labor Day going full Emma Goldman on Twitter.
Fox News, however, being Fox News, kicked off this holiday weekend with a particularly shitty article about how Geoffrey Owens, who played Elvin on The Cosby Show , was discovered to be working at a Trader Joe's in New Jersey. He was "spotted" by a woman named Karma Lawrence, who took a picture of him and then, for whatever reason, decided to go screaming from the rooftops that a guy from The Cosby Show... has a job .

Fox "reports: "
The actor, who was on the sitcom from 1985 to 1992, was spotted by a local shopper at the Clifton, N.J. store, standing behind one of the checkout counters and wearing a Trader Joe's staff shirt with a name tag that read, "Geoffrey."
So?
First of all, there's nothing wrong with working at a grocery store. It's a job. Dude is just trying to get through his life like anyone else. So the hell what if he was on a sitcom in the 1980s? Although the article is fairly straightforward, what is the point here? To go "Oh hey, that guy used to be famous and now he has a normal job?"
Second of all, we all know what's going on here, and why it is that Fox chose to even bother with this non-story to begin with. Because their readers are, frankly, kind of racist and would get a kick out of it.
Just as grossly, Radar Online -- which is owned by the National Enquirer, mind you -- ran this shit

They wrote:
" He looked bloated and unhappy ," noted shopperKarma Lawrence, 50, a medical secretary.
Despite his grim mood, Owens politely wished Lawrence "a good day" after ringing up her items, she said.
Still, she was shocked to see him.
"It made me feel really bad. I was like, 'Wow! All those years of doing the show and you ended up as a cashier,'" Lawrence said.
And I'm like "Wow! Your actual name is Karma and you aren't the least bit worried that being this shitty will come back on you somehow?"
For what it's worth, Owens is still acting -- just not full time. People, even people who used to be on The Cosby Show , have to pay their bills. Dude was on a show over 20 years ago and is clearly just trying to live a normal life without Fox News, Radar Online and Karma Lawrence getting in his face and trying to shame him for working for a living.
And let us just say. Working in a grocery store is hardly the most "shameful" thing anyone from that show has ever done, ok?
