When I started reading this mommyblog, it was a very D.C.-focused funhouse chaired by Ana Marie Cox and there were lots of laughs about pandas and Shrub and GILFs, aah, those halcyon days. If this kind of shit had occurred then, well the locals' response would likely have been more voluminous. I have two kids living in NW and NE (though my son used to love doing farmers' markets in SE too) and they have been living the D.C. life that I remember when I was their age, as a NYC resident who would visit frequently to play ultimate on the mall and eat Ethiopian food. It's always been a great city for young people and yes, there's been crime like in every other city but restaurants have always thrived, regardless.
