If, uh, these people are to be deported, then these massive purchases will soon be vacant. Right?

Will we keep paying the jailer companies for maintaining empty properties? Or will the government find other uses for these huge cages?

Nobody has mentioned the stupidity of converting these warehouses to housing. These are warehouses that are designed to house goods, not people, which means that there are only a handful of bathrooms and maybe an efficiency kitchen. Also, the modern warehouse is designed to store items vertically and have 24'+ ceilings, which makes creating even cubicles difficult. These warehouses also usually do not have much heating or cooling. It is typical in NH to not heat your warehouse in winter, and they usually have air-filled fire suppression systems that are designed to handle really cold temperatures. Finally there are almost no windows in these buildings, and many lack outdoors space for exercise, etc. Stupid, just stupid.

ICE is apparently trying to set up a concentration camp in the town next to mine in a currently unused warehouse owned (ultimately) by Carl Icahn. The county legislature voted against it but that was merely symbolic as it's the County Executive who calls the shots, and he's a dumbass Republican. They might be stymied by the fact that the local sewage treatment facility is already at capacity, but I doubt the Feds will let that stop them.

So I hear Miller wants to deport 3,000 people a day. And google says that's correct. If so (and he of course hasn't reached that total ever), the ENTIRE POPULATION of the US would be gone in less than a year--population now roughly 348,326,949, his quota would, if achieved, be 399,675,000 in 365 days.

WHAT THE FUCK is wrong with these morons? Much less their enablers and MAGAts generally??

Mysterysurf's avatar

3000/day works out to 1.095 million in a year.

Bhattacharya, a Stanford University physician and economist, rose to prominence during the pandemic by arguing that the government’s response to the outbreak was too harsh, a stance that put him at odds with public health leaders who said his proposals would imperil the most vulnerable Americans. He co-wrote the Great Barrington Declaration, which was published in October 2020 and called for an end to coronavirus shutdowns. The declaration drew rebukes from government officials — a clash that ultimately boosted his profile and helped draw the support of Kennedy, a fellow critic of the government’s pandemic response. It is more than a tad gratifying to report that the mayor of the city of Spokane, my home and birthplace, is proposing a ban on ICE detention facilities here.

Thus far support for such a ban has been substantial.

Resource NW's avatar

I wish Tacoma had caught on faster. Alas, they are stuck with a detention center. I have en couraged my congress person to set up an everyday inspection to get around the two week warning deal.

If DHS/ICE don't submit to prison standards (health care, good food, beds, clothes, clean water, safety, lawyer visit, inspections by Congress and local officials, etc) we should close their facilities, and start trials from the top down. And then start holding them in the airlocks. Oh, that's in space.

Resource NW's avatar

Airlocks made by highest briber.

ManchuCandidate's avatar

Just incarcerate the CEOs and senior managers in those facilities till their trials begin. I'm sure they'll appreciate rotting meat and gruel meals and limited/non existent facilities.

Saw a story on my phone feed today about infants and pregnant women (and their fetuses) being placed in danger by being in ICEsturmabteilung custody. In one instance, an infant who stopped breathing was taken to the hospital but brought back to prison for brown

folks as soon as it was stabilized.

Judges have criticized this treatment of humans.

You'd think that our "pro-life" idiots would be shocked and shamed about this threat to the little babies. You'd be wrong. Here are some of the comments:

"WE don't care...deport deport deport"

"We owe them NOTHING!" (with an ice cube and 'Murkan flag following the written words)

"No more free medical no matter what color" (dumbass doesn't realize that the government is responsible for all medical care of inmates, from if an inmate has a stroke in custody, needs eyeglasses, requires cancer treatments, whatever, the government must provide it all)

"DEPORT THEM and STOP using our TAX DOLLARS for their medical care!!!" (PAB must have written that one)

"I'm sick of judges !"

Mexfiles's avatar

One of my arguments for radical prison reform is that prisoners are wards of the state. Ethically, as a citizen of any state, I become responsible for their care. My one and only time as a juror was a competency hearing for a mentally ill (by his own admission) convict, seeking to be transferred to a psychiatric hospital. It was kind of surreal, called in to a trial that lasted less than five minutes (the convit's lawyer said he was nuts, the prosecutor said he was nuts.. HOWEVER, one of the three psyciatrists who filled out a assessment form had neglected to say whether or not he was a danger to himself or others). Silly, but yeah... as a human, he had rights, and as a designated caretaker (a resident of the state), we were responsible for his well-being.

tek's avatar

Pro-life, until birth.

Then you're on your own.

pstokk's avatar

Not really. Prenatal care is inadequate for the uninsured or minimally insured. Statistically there will be a certain number of fetal deaths due to this, as well as a certain number of babies born with medical issues.

tek's avatar

That is all true.

But if the fetus dies, that's god's will unless they want to arrest you for it.

Birth defects? That's god's will too, and don't come looking for a handout.

.

preventive care, in all forms, is not what these assholes care about.
