Well, there are tariffs to impose, names to be engraved on other's memorials, golf won't cheat itself! There's ballrooms, and helipads and gold to be encrusted, reflecting pools to ruin. He's a busy guy. And, who GAF about some Black voting Democrats? That's really the issue. He's a fucking disgrace. FU, "MAGA."

I read "Indiana," and thought, that's odd. Then I read "Gary," and thought, oh, of course.

"Although there are federal criteria for disaster aid, decisions ultimately are at the president’s discretion." ANOTHER loophole that the new Democratic Congress will need to plug.

Someone needs to drive around with a picture of donnie and a sign on the car that reads "You voted for this!"

I have a bumpersticker that says "DON'T BLAME ME I VOTED KAMALA" I got it the day after the election, before he was even sworn in.

They didn’t. They voted against him, unlike the rest of the state.

Loss of refrigeration is really scary. I get a monthly injection for my migraines that has to be refrigerated. Those are $800 each to replace, insurance won't replace them, and replacing at least the next one with any immediate cash assistance would be a priority. I cannot miss my migraine medication.

My cat gets insulin, and that definitely has to be refrigerated. A refill on that would be $35.

Teen Laqueefa's avatar

Doofus's insulin was $130 for a bottle!

Diane's Less Hostile Username's avatar

I used to pay $90 at CVS but Joe Biden's program to cut insulin costs works on Tuna-Boy's brand so it's $35.

Perhaps of the city ponied up a bribe to Trump they would get better emergency service.

This shit's crazy -- and not an isolated event. This past winter there were places in Mississippi that lost power in a storm and it didn't get restored for at least two weeks. I heard about Gary just yesterday when ABC finally had a story about it. Local news has been disappearing, Republican politicians are actively neglecting the constituents they consider the enemy, and federal agencies have been gutted -- so if you want to see class warfare in action, this is it.

...“Every day I’m crying,” Renita Theus, 41, said outside her darkened apartment, where her car remained trapped under a fallen tree. “It’s hot in the house. I toss and turn and can’t sleep. I walked to the dollar store and they’re all out of candles and batteries.”...

For residents like Ms. Theus, the challenges will not end even when the power comes back. She said she will need to figure out how to get the tree off her car — and find a new source of income. She lost her cleaning job in Chicago a few days ago, because she was not able to travel.

Others, Ms. Theus said, had it worse.

“There’s a lot of people here struggling. I feel bad for newborn babies and people on ventilators,” she said. “I think if this was a richer area, it would be different.”

My parents lost power for a week after Hurricane Sandy and I was staying there while recovering from surgery. The only thing that helped was they had a gas stove we could light with a match, so canned food could be heated at least. That first warm shower after the power came back was a gift.

ugh, off topic nice thing?

on this date in 1762, Ann Franklin - Ben's sister-in-law - becomes the first woman newspaper editrix when she takes over the Newport Mercury upon the passing of her husband

the Mercury existed in some form until just a few years ago, actually, thus becoming the nation's oldest something-or-another

It is incredible how the administration has done the exact opposite of what people so badly need at this time. So much time spent on crazy shit! No concern for people!

josephebacon's avatar

Ah but Republicans in control of the government have a deep concern--that their billionaire Pimps and Corporate masters aren't getting enough welfare in the form of subsidies and tax cuts!

Republicans are all in with giving the rich all the socialist welfare they need while everyone else gets the shaft!

Your Mind Matters@'s avatar

So true! There isn't enough sarcasm for the situation.

Miasma, Pestilence, Calamity and Destitution...the Republican Way!

The Department of Calamity is trying its darnedest to catch up to Miasma and Pestilence. Still a ways to go.

In hot weather, miasma and pestilence follow Calamity. From CDC - might want to download the information because I suspect it's only online because the WH blackout machine hasn't found this information.

"Between 2003 and 2023, more than 1 million cases of vector-borne diseases were reported in the United States. Rising temperatures and changing rainfall patterns can boost mosquito and tick populations and make it easier for them to spread harmful pathogens to people. As a result, illnesses like Lyme and West Nile virus diseases are increasing." and "Rising temperatures have allowed certain disease-causing fungi to spread into new areas that previously were too cold for them to survive. Valley fever is one example."
