Not to feed into Mel Gibson's delusional, but I seriously do think we need a managed retreat rather than rebuilding in a high risk area. I really like the writing that Hamilton Nolan has done on the topic.
"Mel Gibson, for example, a guy who used to make kind of fun movies back in the 1980s and has since lost his mind..."
Beg to differ, Gary. Mel Gibson has ALWAYS been a gigantic asshole and a vicious, violent drunk. At the very START of his career, he showed up to his audition for Mad Max "looking like a busted grapefruit" because he had gotten into a drunken brawl the night before. And he has repeatedly said and done shitty, violent stuff while drunk ever since, with behavior landing consistently somewhere in between "stalker" and "potential mass shooter."
That motherfucker never lost his mind. He was fucking born that way.
Elon Musk and Mel Gibson are idiots, and of course Trump sycophants. Anyone who has lived through a fire knows what they entail and eventually the sources are all the same - human, most often, and most often unintentionally. In CA, when it is Santa Ana winds conditions coupled with dry, fire-ready weather, there are risks for devastation. There is no "great government plan" bullshit conspiracy to burn down homes and take hold of land for gain... only selfish people, and paranoias think like this.
I really feel for Newsom. This is extreme weather coupled with the fire. Feels like the beginning of a bad syfy movie. Except it's our lives. As to #DeportElonMusk and the rest? Looking for a bag of salted rat dicks to send them.
While there is probably enough blame to go around, I do not believe that anything short of bulldozing the forests would have kept this from happening. How do you store enough water for a fire like this? The entire water delivery structure would have to be up graded. Frankly, I do not believe anyone would have agreed to the taxation that would entail for dealing with a firestorm like this.
These are not forest fires. While I don't doubt some trees are involved, this is largely an urban conflagration, with Grass, scrub, and chaparral in-between. And the only "blame" has to do with over-development of a very dry area. LADWP gets most of their water from Northern California, and the Colorado River. As a NoCal resident most of my life, I feel for the folks losing their homes, but wish LA wasn't such a dense concrete jungle.
conspiracy amateurs, all of em....i've got my own conspiracy to hawk... anyone ever seen gavin newsom and neil giraldo in the same room together? 🤔 🤷🏼♂️
People suck. Also some people are heroes and fighters and care. I can’t believe where we are, with the world’s wealthiest person trying to shut down programs and eliminate jobs while shitposting lies about one of the worst wildfires in American history.
Poor Joe Biden. He saved us from Trump in 2020, only to find himself and his family cruelly attacked while his achievements were drowned out by a sea of misinformation. Now he sees LA burn 10 days before his term ends. He can’t buy a break and his retirement can’t arrive soon enough. I’m sure Trump will have a plan to rebuild LA on Day 1. You bet.
If I were inclined to believe that Republicans were capable of any sort of strategic planning, I'd think they were promoting Newsome as the most prominent Democrat in hopes he'll be the frontrunner in '28 because they think they can beat him more easily than anyone else.
The truth is that Donald Chump feels completely and horribly inadequate around him and just lashes out.
Wow what a spiral of misery…Liberalism IS a mental disorder.

E-Loon at it again. I would laugh but he is a disaster that we will live with for at least a generation.
MSM ought to be reporting on all the lies. Well, I can dream....
"Tommy guns". LOL. Just a small sample of Melon Husk's ability to capture the reality of a situation.

Tragedy is merely an opportunity for the worst conservatives to show everyone their ass.
Mump & Co. are doing their best to dirty up Gov. Newsom to hamstring a potential run for president on his part.

It'll stay a couple of weeks off, I reckon.

Ta, Gary. Newsom has a lot on his plate, and these attention whores are all trying to poison everything on said plate.
