i was an alive, adult when she burned herself, yes it was a terrible accident, but if i were on that jury, she would not have gotten the settlement she did. she spilled it on herself. the people i know who drink coffee, want it so hot they can't drink it right away. if it were not hot, she would have complained. i am all about helping people who are victimized by corporations and their greed, but not when you did it to your self.

You incorrectly refer to a $135,000 fine. The $135,000 is a sugessted damage amount going to the aggrieved parties, not a fine. This award is not final. The Kleins have contested the $135,000 damages award.State Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian will set the amount of damages. The maximum damages he is allowed to assess is $150,000. He can lower or eliminate the damage awards or he can assess fines. Avakian's order, expected this summer, can be challenged in the Oregon Court of Appeals.

I'm fully of the position that if a bakery discriminates, they get to pay for the couple to go and find another baker- with all associated expenses. Every. Time. It won't kill their business, but it should surely act as a deterrent to this fuckery.
A. Losing 135K might work as a deterrent against someone else pulling this crap.
B. They were begging to be martyrs, so their prayers were answered. Odds are pretty good find a way to cash in on the deal.
