FYI, for all the people lamenting the state of Portland, most of those people are not here, and refuse to acknowledge that there were massive social issues BEFORE measure 110, and that it’s happening in every city in our country.
I'm becoming more and more concerned about the people who will sit out the election or file a protest vote for a third party candidate because Biden is not "liberal" enough. These are the people who will hand close swing states to Trump
I keep hearing people say thay they won't vote for Biden because he's not doing enough for Palestine. None of them can explain how exactly helping Trump get elected is supposed to help Palestine. You can't opt out of the trolley problem by ignoring the lever. They're like toddlers throwing a fit because they can only have part of what they want instead of all of it. Their drive for purity above all else will actively make things worse for the people they claim to want to help.
"For your next bar trivia contest, one of the two candidates Dexter defeated was former Multnomah County Commissioner Susheela Jayapal, the older sister of Washington Democratic Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal." My sister is a friend of Susheela's, has her over to her house during the holidays if it isn't practical for her to visit family (in India or DC), and thought a second Jayapal in Congress would be a fine idea, but it was not to be.
I am going to read your abstract, perhaps more, this evening. I have a major in communications/rhetoric so glad to read your work! Thank you for sharing, Doc!
Regarding that OR3 race: of more importance is the fact that two out-of-state dark money groups-one seemingly created just for this election-threw 5.5 million dollars at defeating Susheela Jayapal in the primary. Both of those groups fiddled Oregon election law in order to hide the identities of their donors until after the election. The group who spent 2.2 million in support of Dexter (314 Action) hid the source of over half of that money by timing the donation until AFTER the April 30th cutoff (AIPAC was rumored to be behind that money and they seem to have acknowledged as much on X-itter this morning). The other, brand-spankin'-new group (Voters for Responsive Government ) used the same trick to avoid having to disclose ANY of its donors. According to their filing, ALL of the 3.25 million they spent on attack ads against Jayapal came in after April 30. (I guess they bought the March-April ads on credit???) This stinks.
Not the point, was it? Also, since you brought this up, being against war crimes and for peace does not equal being "pro-Hamas". Rather the opposite, since they also are guilty of war crimes. Jayapal (and others) have been extremely clear about this. I expect more honest and rational discussion on Wonkette.
The more dumb, mean shit Idaho does the more I understand why the White power fucks have their collective nanopeens hard for it. Sure hope all the womenfolk make it out. The outward flow of medical personnel fleeing that shitty state might help ease their passage.
I don't think the average moron voter in America cares too much about Israel or Gaza. Republicans successfully trampled Biden's high approval ratings by tying him to the pullout in Afghanistan, inflation (worldwide, but Biden caused it!), and the raging crime that is not happening, and the "invasion" on the border.
Half of this shit is just perception, so I hope people have stayed mad about abortion.
The average moron voter in America cares more about whether their favorite team will make the playoffs or not, while horrified at the prospect that their neighbor of color will have a curtain rod to roast their roadkill with.
"But in an election for the state supreme court, former US Rep. John Barrow (D) was unable to ride voters’ anger over restrictions on abortion rights to unseat incumbent Justice Andrew Pinson..."
This is troubling. Do this many American women REALLY not want control of their own reproductive rights?
From what I have been able to glean, Barrow downplayed Dobbs. Had he hammered on it hard he likely would have been successful.

Also, most people are racist as fuck.

They did this with the Affordable Care Act also, too.

Ta, Dok. Stay informed.
I read your Abstract. Very interesting. If I had enough spoons I would probably read the whole thing

Being pro-Hamas isn’t a winning message

Nikki said today she will vote for PAB in Nov, bringing all of her primary voters with her mebbe, ya think? And is Joe panicaked yet?
Many blessings on Fani Willis and everyone who voted for her. May she prevail. Thank you, Dok!

This one trick could cinch it for Biden…

I was disappointed to learn that defending a thesis involved more verbal and less morning-star battles.
And then there's the New Yorker cartoon on many an academic office door.

Thanks for the deets Doc!
OT I notice in the last few pres elections, Rs seem to have a new practice of "balancing the ticket"
with the VP pick. Used to be all geographical, some demographical, maybe some ideological.
But now it is about who hates some new group of people that brings some votes.
And that is why Noem won't get it. Puppy Haters is not a big voting block. Probably a loser.
I'd have thought she was the front runner until the dog-killing incident.
She and Hitler both killed their dogs, and somehow SHE came across far shittier.
Yep, likely.

It's not that they don't want control of their own rights, they just don't want the rest of us to have them.
You'd be amazed how many women hate other women.
Mean Girls grow up to be Mean Women!!

Apparently not
