If we don’t start calling beginning-of-the-week-Tabs “Marcie Mondays,” I’ll be disappoint (that’s me, still trying to make “fetch” happen).

Poppies grow to mark the dead who lie in Flanders fields

Or grow in the Golden Triangle should opium you would deal

But a poppy in Virginia wins today's new thing award

All hail the grand ascendance of our media overlord.

Two pm already, I was just in the middle of my day

I was teaching Italian teen-os about Tudor King Henry VIII

But now I can't see straight-

I'm looking at tabs and what they say

Such are the ways in a timezone not the USA's

It's just another Marcie Monday

Since Monday has such a negative connotation, let's pump up the alliteration and make it Marvelous Marcie Mondays! Because she is. 😀

Craig Nixon's avatar

I'd get in on this, but I've been known to loudly proclaim my love of Marcie far and wide. Eventually she'll start thinking I'm a weirdo and I'M NOT A WEIRDO DAMMIT.

Actually, I overslept, just woke up and this is a great development. ✊

fka_fka_donnie_d's avatar

I dunno. "Marcie Mondays" sound like a mild psychological condition.

As in, "I have a bad case of the Marcie Mondays"

Notorious J.I.M.'s avatar

"I have a good case of the Marcie Mondays."

Martini Glambassador's avatar

I suppose it all comes down to perspective.

fka_fka_donnie_d's avatar

Counterpoint: why do you hate Marcie?

Craig Nixon's avatar

We all love Marcie.

I mean, except for that thing where she can write rings around me without even breaking a sweat. For that matter, so can Shy...he's like a secret weapon when he starts writing.

I thought it was "Hungry Hungry Hippies."

As a good friend put it: "the purpose of tech is to make access to creative originality cheap while depriving creative professionals access to the wealth their creation makes possible."

TQ White II's avatar

I always say that creativity comes from constraints. Watching that B-52s video, I think about that. It might not be the best video ever but I like it much, much better than I like most of the mini-movie music videos made using the infinitely better model video technology. I want Taylor Swift to start making her videos using B-52s era tech.

For those of you who have been following my chair saga, I believe that the wheelchair company has been asking me to fulfill medicare requirements--not those of my actual insurance company.

I am vexed.

So much unifying:

From Huffpost: "Donald Trump has mocked the viral video of him chatting with Barack Obama during former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral last week. On Sunday, Trump, posted a spoof of their talk complete with fake audio from the moment.

“I knew you’d win,” a dubbed Obama said while seated next to Trump.

A pseudo Trump responded, “Come on. Anyone could beat her,” referring to Vice President Kamala Harris, who Trump defeated in the 2024 presidential election.

After Harris and her husband, Douglas Emhoff, sat down in the row in front of Trump and Obama, the faux Obama then asks Trump, “Did you see that? [Harris] won’t even look at me,” prompting simulated Trump to reply, “I was told [by] some of her people, apparently they said she fell off the wagon.”

“I think she actually may have…and also she’s not really built for this amount of pressure,” fake Obama added.

Elsewhere in the clip, in which Trump didn’t include a caption, the pair’s mock conversation took aim at President Joe Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“He just didn’t wanna leave,” the forged audio from Obama said of Biden. “I did what I could to help [Harris]. She was horrendous.”"

NYT: Judge [Cannon] Allows Release of Half of Special Counsel’s Report on Trump Cases

"A federal judge in Florida cleared the way on Monday for the Justice Department to soon release a portion of a report written by the special counsel, Jack Smith, detailing the decisions he made in charging President-elect Donald J. Trump with plotting to overturn his loss in the 2020 election.

But in a five-page order, the judge, Aileen M. Cannon, ruled that prosecutors and defense lawyers would have to appear before her in court on Friday to argue over whether the Justice Department could release to members of Congress the part of Mr. Smith’s report dealing with the case she oversaw: the one in which Mr. Trump was accused of refusing to return classified documents after he left office.

Under the ruling, the Justice Department would be free to release the part of the report about the election case as early as Monday night or Tuesday morning. Mr. Trump’s lawyers could still ask an appeals court or the Supreme Court to stop that part of Mr. Smith’s report from coming out."

NOTHING says "relating to the common man/woman" like "an $895,500 watch", I always say.

Seek's avatar

I really want to know why Mark Zuckerburg even needs a watch. Buy yourself a nice bracelet and some earrings you little attention whore.

Eva, Iron Goddess of Mercy's avatar

I don’t get the really expensive watch thing. Watches are almost obsolete because of cell phones, so I’m assuming that these really expensive watches are considered men’s jewelry. So, is a $900,000 men’s watch the equivalent of a woman’s multi carat diamond ring?

Cock Blockula's avatar

I've heard about of subset of women who flaunt really expensive designer purses. It only status signals to women who know their purses. As it happens, I do not. Just give me a free recyclable grocery bag and I am happy.

Eva, Iron Goddess of Mercy's avatar

I do not now, nor have I ever, carried a purse.

“Academic researchers have put their minds towards identifying news deserts, so that perhaps philanthropic organizations can help support local news in underserved communities. Trump won 91 percent of counties with no local news source, which is maybe not a coincidence! “

Definitely not a coincidence. Once you get away from large media markets all thats available is right wing hate and bible thump.

This was the inevitable result of media deregulation and repeal of the fairness doctrine that allowed this sort of thing to flourish. Hate radio and the concentration of the media in the hands of a few right wing libertarian billionaires

There is no connection and responsibility to local communities anymore nor is there an incentive to report in a detailed and truthful manner Local stations under the fairness doctrine were required to put aside so many hours a day for public service
