What's especially depressing here is the tiny amount of money alleged to have been illegally received. If the charges turn out to be true, this man will have ruined his reputation and perhaps even his life for an average payout of $60,000 per year. How pathetic is that?

It is super pathetic, but totally in keeping with the fact that once elected, a politician's primary job is to get reelected.

I voted for Jessica Cisneros, and I believe I gave her money during the runoff.

I have never liked Henry Cuellar, for a variety of reasons. Wish I wasn't being proven right.

I wasted many a rant on the fact the the odious Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the Democratic establishment was so totally unprincipled that they actively campaigned for the forced birther Cuellar. And I suspect they even knew he was crooked- anything to avoid supporting a genuine progressive.

I ...

Listen, folks

Does anyone really believe we'll ever have actual voting rights again ever if we don't get back unified government (White House, Senate, House) in November?

Or any environmental protections ever again?

I understand venting anxiety - but we honestly can't give up before we even get started

Dem leaders always campaign for the incumbent. Primaries are easier to win than generals. The only thing we know about the incumbent is that they can win the district.

I am sure you are celebrating this. And it is a good thing because Dems should not piss away a House majority in the face of fascism to support challengers that can not take on an incumbent in a damn primary - which is hella easier than the general. I find her odious, but she is a Dem and she can win her district. Not backing her would be bad policy and bad politics.

Jessica Cisneros couldn’t have won a general election. It’s a traditionally conservative, Democratic Latino district. (Plus, she was sleeping with her former teacher, a married man.) Now with this, in Texas… we’ll probably lose this goddamn seat.

I think it's accessible to the right kind of progressive candidate, which Cisneros was, minus the teacher banging segment.

"Anyway, the primary was close enough that it went to a runoff, where Cuellar beat Cisneros by a little under 300 votes. Imagine the angst the Democrats could have spared themselves if they had helped get this schmuck out of office two years ago." --Gary Legum

And this is one of the reasons why I don't belong to a political party, and why I don't make blanket donations to the party's apparatus. Because they do stupid shit like this. I donate to specific politicians' campaigns directly if I do it at all.

Here we are approximately six months out from the general, and I'm wondering whether Biden/Harris needs help, or should I instead send a donation to someone down ballot in 2024?

Counterpoint: this is why we need more leftists to join the Democratic party, so we can still vote out these creeps and replace them with progressives even if leadership intervenes.

The leadership always "intervenes" in trying to keep incumbents on the ballots.

You are so profoundly anti-democratic that you believe that no one should be able to disagree, and if they do it is somehow illegitimate "intervention".

Cuellar is a Democrat.

Somebody needs to ask whether or not ANY of the REPUBLICANS who were or are suspected of Azerbaijan/Iran terrorist involvement and/or money laundering are also going to be indicted -- INCLUDING THIS ONE

When we get out the vote 🗳 in November and get unified Democratic government, he needs to be out.

Bring us Sally Yates.

I mean -- I'd prefer Glenn Kirchner -- I'd REALLY prefer Elie Mystal, to clean up this mess once and for all -- but we'll never get one of the two of them
