I'm sorry Kat Cammack experienced an ectopic pregnancy. That is a potentially terrifying medical situation, as well as being emotionally traumatic. I wish this history had caused her to develop some sympathy for the countless others without her personal connections who have confronted the trauma and terror alone and afraid. Empathy seems utterly beyond her.

This inability to learn (and especially to learn compassion or nuance) from lived experience--even when they live it themselves, for Christ's sake!--distinguishes the dug-in GOP. They would rather sacrifice one of their own (especially women) than admit that their policies might benefit from revision.

Trump cannot admit error. He defines doing so as "weak." His followers will strengthen themselves to death.

Fuck this "they're too stupid to understand" shit, I get tired of it. Forced birth politicians like Cammack understand the implications of their purposefully-vague bans perfectly well, as do their supporters. That a ban first stymies Cammack's medically-necessary abortion, the allows her to use her money and power to circumvent it is EXACTLY the outcome she wanted. Bonus points for the opportunity to gaslight about how it's the left's fault, actually. I'm sure she'll get some donations out of that.

She ain't stupid. She's evil. And repeatedly, cluelessly calling Fascists stupid is getting us nowhere. It makes us look like the dumb ones.

This is where having a detectable amount of empathy in my body is a real pain in the ass. Obviously, I want this woman to have the medical experience she believes everyone should have. On the other hand, this is an awful and terrifying situation that has no doubt elicited a trauma response. My heart breaks for her, and I hope she's getting the care she needs.

FUCK!

As someone who's also in the Sisterhood of Ectopic Pregnancy club (thankfully had mine removed with surgery and my tube was spared and I went on to have two healthy pregnancies that resulted in awesome kids), this bitch makes me so mad. She took the absolute wrongest, most idiotic, selfish lesson from her terrifying experience all to justify her weirdo puritan ideology.

Pregnancy is hard and gnarly and, even if you're the perfect church going person with a wanted pregnancy, shit can go sideways fast and kill your ass. So we need to get all the pearl clutching morality police out of this shit so appropriate interventions can happen quickly, lest there be more dead women.

I read an article about Queen Elizabeth's pregnancies. Elizabeth was expected to produce an heir but there were never pregnancy announcements in the press when the Queen was pregnant. She just disappeared from the public eye for a few months then suddenly presented the world with a baby.

Women would hide their pregnancies, it was taboo to even mention pregnancy until the latter half of the 20th century in Western Culture.

This aversion to discussing pregnancy has led to a misconception that every pregnancy results in a live healthy baby.

The average American adult still doesn't understand, 1 out of 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage.

Pregnancy is complex and prone to complications, including death, but society has attempted to hide the traumatic parts of life.

Conservatives still operate with blinders, they think everything is simple and life is far from simple.

There's a lot of expectation that women's health and experiences be soft and clean and hidden away. Menstruation. Menopause. Pregnancy. I think people are more open to sharing the real deal these days but man, in the past, it was just verboten and any pain was swallowed down.

My baby boomer mom just suffered with crazy nightmare periods until menopause. I asked her why and she said it's just what you did. I have a young woman gynecologist who was horrified by my anemia related to all the blood loss and got me an IUD and holy shit if that didn't resolve a lot of issues.

She just set precedent. Abortions for ectopic pregnancies are now legal in every state under the Cammack exception.

Just use the magic words: "Medical Assisted Miscarriage" and it's not an abortion! 🙄
