Well, gosharooties! We can't reconvene that congress thingie dingie in November! Those congressmen might catch cold! We can't send that tainted money to you, it's the root of all evil! But we in congress done something even better for you! We've authorized funds to send each and every one of you a bootstrap you can pull yourself up with!

Ta, Dok. What the actual fuck?!

These disasters are smack in deep red Trump country. Johnson will refuse to reconvene to extend FEMA funding so Felonious Fuckhead can pretend Biden's administration is unilaterally withholding aid like Foolius threatened during his dark reign when California was burning. He'll barf out some slop about Cacklin' Kamala giving 'their' money to whichever non-White boogeyman he can remember how to pronounce or some shit.

I feel bad for everyone affected by the disaster, but I suspect they'll believe him.

I hate that it's going to go most of this way unless and until Dems make it very VERY clear in the MSM (which will at first refuse to air its messages) exactly who is being the miser here refusing to authorize funding.

"I feel bad for everyone affected by the disaster, but I suspect they'll believe him."

Not the Black people.

Wouldn't new tax cuts for billionaires help victims of Helene? I know Mike Johnson would get the gang back together for that.

Speaker Covenant Eyes will go down as one of the worst in history. And of course, through his inaction and his inability to herd his asshole unreconstructed caucus, it just proves the law:

Higher taxes and fees too! (Provided they're not among the top 2%, no higher taxes for them! Those would be "punitive"!)

Imagine if we had put money, decades ago, into dealing with climate change.

But then disaster wouldn't have come to pass, and the naysayers would be busy with their "I told you so's". There is no pleasing those kind of awful or misguided people.

Ironic cause FEMA seems to deal with areas in mostly Red States. You'd think the MAGAts in the House would do their best to keep FEMA well funded to deal with the dangerous effects of man made climate change they pretend with all their might that doesn't exist if they cared about their constituents like they claim.

No they voted against funding FEMA instead. They like to claim victories for their voters, while actually they have voted against the very thing they're shouting about.

Project 25 gets rid of FEMA I think.

Expand full comment

Gets rid of NOAA. It's the "head in the sand" approach favored by cynical bastards.

Expand full comment

It does not. It hamstrings it by reducing it's budget, reallocating items it doesn't reduce ,etc.

But it doesn't recommend eliminating the agency entirely.

Expand full comment

underfund it enough so it can't do what it was created to do, and then Republicans can eliminate because it doesn't work.

They've been trying that with the Post Office for decades with that stupid "fully fund a new hire's pension on Day 1" bullshit. But it hasn't worked.

They actually did away with that with the last postal reform bill. Finally.

Let us not forget that on September 25, 2024, Congress passed a continuing resolution to fund the government through December 20 - averting a shut-down. Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida on September 26. 18 Republican Senators voted against it, including Marsha Blackburn, TN, Ted Budd, N.C, Tim Scott, S.C. JD Vance and Tim Scott of FL did not cast a vote. 82 House members, all Republican, voted against it, including 6 members from FL. Matt Gaetz, whose district was the site of landfall, voted AGAINST it. Marjorie Taylor-Greene of GA voted against it.

Any Republican bitching about the response of the Biden Administration needs to have their record made public. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/interactive/2024/09/25/senate-vote-results-government-shutdown-bill-cr/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/interactive/2024/09/25/house-vote-results-government-shutdown-bill-cr/

Trump: Blue states can die:

E&E News by Politico reported:

A review of Trump’s record by POLITICO’s E&E News and interviews with two former Trump White House officials show that the former president was flagrantly partisan at times in response to disasters and on at least three occasions hesitated to give disaster aid to areas he considered politically hostile or ordered special treatment for pro-Trump states.

Mark Harvey, who was Trump’s senior director for resilience policy on the National Security Council staff, told E&E News on Wednesday that Trump initially refused to approve disaster aid for California after deadly wildfires in 2018 because of the state’s Democratic leanings.

But Harvey said Trump changed his mind after Harvey pulled voting results to show him that heavily damaged Orange County, California, had more Trump supporters than the entire state of Iowa, Harvey said.
